We're only 4 sacks away from worst in the league. Either way, we've improved a lot.

Gregory came on later in the year, which makes sense that he'd need half a season to shake off the rust having not played in years. If he can stay out of trouble, he can be one of the better RDEs in the league next year.

Lawrence needs to put it together for a whole season. This is the second year in a row he turned into a ghost in the second half of the season. Fortunately, Gregory stepped up during that time. He's still one of the better LDEs in the league but not in the same class as Mack, Miller, Donald.

Irving can be a beast 3-tech, but he's proving to be very unreliable. He could be cheap for another year since he wasted this season, but we need to make 3-tech our top priority in this upcoming draft.

Overall, we have a lot of depth across the line. But we need some stars to step up during the playoffs. The only guys we have with star power are Gregory, Lawrence, Irving.

I think a lot that may be due to the close games. Dallas doesn't score too many points. Teams do not usually have to play catch up by passing every down.

28.5 sacks from everyone not named DeMarcus Lawrence. That's embarrassing.

Thats odd. We've faced the 11th least snaps. If we are 16th in sacks and 19th most snaps faced idk how our % could go down? Am I missing something?
A few things:

Sack percentage is Sacks / (Pass Attempts + Sacks), so only passing plays are included (and QB scrambles are excluded from those).
Dallas is tied for 16th with two other teams in sacks, and tied for 17th in pass attempts against, also with two other teams. So there's a lot of overlap already from 16th to 19th in those categories.
Going from sacks to sack%:
  • Two teams--the Jags and Bills--vault over Dallas. Bad teams that faced very few pass plays because noone needed to pass against them late in games.
  • One team--the Eagles--falls behind Dallas. They faced a huge number of pass attempts.
  • Of the two teams Dallas was tied with in sacks, one finished higher in sack% and the other lower.

Surprised KC led the league with 52 sacks. Their defense has been shredded this season. They ranked 31st in total defense. Can’t recall a team that had that many sacks having a defense ranked that low.

Why? He had 27% of our sacks, which is middle of the pack in the league. Our ranking in "sacks by others" is 20th instead of ~16th for total sacks, but only 0.5 sacks out of the same spot.

If you add in holding calls and holding calls that were not called, dallas would move up on that list.
Ya I bet there is another algorithm that can incorporate a few more stats but the NFL won’t acknowledge stats based on penalties due to it being considered third party. DLaw’s agent knows the algorithm I’m sure.

Teams are getting the ball out quickly against our defense. I look at total pressures as well.

DLaw, Gregory, and Collins make a nice pass-rushing trio. Gregory just needs to play a whole year like he has the 2nd half of this year and hopefully Collins and DLaw will be a little healthier next year.
You forgot Tyrone Crawford .

Not really. The Rams had 20 sacks from everyone not named Donald. Seems like a very top heavy pass rush. We have more weapons not including Irving.

I think a healthy Maliek Collins gives you 6 - 8 sacks at 3T, also you will get more sacks next year from a completely healthy Jaylon Smith and an LVE with more experience.

Wait....since Irving didn't play at all this year did he not play enough games to fulfill his contract? Does that mean we have him another year?

When you play to minimize possessions, getting lofty sack totals isn’t easy.
