wow well Jerry interviewed Cam Newton at the combine that must mean thats our 9th picksilverbear;3864327 said:They met with him at the Senior Bowl, and IIRC, Rob Ryan said some nice things about him in the media at that time...
Hey, I'm not too high on him myself... conversely, I'm not down on Costanzo either...

Smith looked very good all year. Pac 10 specializes in speed rushers and he saw a bunch of them on the right and did very well. I think he would have no problem at all starting at RT, and in a year or so move to LT and do very well there.

supercowboy8;3864205 said:and who did Carimi play this, they weren't chumps.
Carimi played LT vs Clayborn, Heyward, Ballard, Liuget, Jared Crick, and Kerrigan.
Thats pretty good players in this draft and in Crick who will be in next years draft.
He not just RT he play against the best DEs in College on Left side. He can play the Left or the right . You don't even know how good this kid going to Be, Gabe is assume LT he gets motavated for anything kick but very easy. Bye the way he ran 5.12. and 10 he ran 1.79 the third or second fast Tackle at the combines.TheFinisher;3863534 said:Being that Carimi is strictly a RT, you're going to see him fall further than you would expect. Maybe all the way to #40, or in range for a reasonable trade up.
SilverStarCowboy;3864593 said:Carimi isn't what we need, he's a good run blocker but too slow of foot to pass protect like other LTs in the NFL that have been projected in the 1st every Draft.
Don't worry fellow Cowboys that other Cowboys never seen a great player his life Gabe to reminds me another great LT Mark Tuinei. Dallas was watching OT's NT like Baylor Phil Taylor, Kenrick Ellis when Kendrick Ellis hami the DC Rob Ryan went down to talk the guys at NFL Network . I know because I have it on tape.supercowboy8;3864654 said:how is he not what we need. last I checked we didn't have a RT worth starting. Carimi can come in and start day one at RT, we have a LT so I don't care if he can play LT in the NFL.
A combination of his athleticism, production, and attitude.fortdick;3863825 said:Why is Smith so highly touted? His athleticism? Solder showed great athleticism and has moved up to the top OT in many published mocks.
I just don't get all the Smith hype.
I would take Carimi before all of them.

Switching over to the left side from the right side is like going from predominately using your right hand to using your left.supercowboy8;3864459 said:the pac 10 specializes in speed rushers, really. I don't know any great speed rushers that was dominate in the pac 10 in years.
Also most speed rushers play on the weak side or right side, going up against the LT.
Smith at LT for two weeks vs those so called specialized speed ruchers of the pac 10, which maybe only one is a 1st round pick this year, he sucked at. He was moved back to RT where he played well.
Smith is only so high because of his potential and athletic ability for his size, not for being a great OT. Thats how busts are drafted. Smith hasn't shown anything that shows he can play LT in the NFL.
I would rather take a 4 year starting LT who played vs top tier players than a two year RT that played in the Pac 10.
I need a RT that can start now, not in 2-3 years. Free was a top 3 LT in the NFL last year and this year should be just as good if not better. HE can hold down the LT spot for years to come no need to draft a guy that "might" be a LT in 4-5 years with the 9th pick overall.
and thats not that easy. If it was easy then Smith would have stayed at LT besides being moved to RT.Cover 2;3864689 said:Switching over to the left side from the right side is like going from predominately using your right hand to using your left.

You can't just switch sides and expect no drop off. The technique to play left tackle is the complete opposite of the technique to play right tackle.supercowboy8;3864743 said:and thats not that easy. If it was easy then Smith would have stayed at LT besides being moved to RT.
What do you base this off of?SilverStarCowboy;3864761 said:Exactly and rightnow Dallas is cuffed at LT by Doug Free because he needs help vs most of the top speed rushers in the league.
Every team in the NFL including the NFC East trys to feature a top flight speed rusher and that is where Free is limited.
Therefore, LT Smith over RT Carimi "erreyday" and twice on Gameday.
