That is 16m heading into last cuts so that could even go up........ but Hanna, Morris and Wilber all look safe as they should be

DAL didn't even restructure Dez, TCrawford or Witten...... that is another 18m...... leaving them 34m in easy cap space

This was unthinkable a couple seasons ago but the cap rose 45m the last 4 years..... this is even after eating Romo's 11m dead hit this year...... the promotion of Will McClay looks to be the main spark that led to much better drafts....... 10 more draft picks next year too

We replaced a veteran franchise quarterback with a 4th-round rookie contract franchise quarterback and Romo's release freed up $14 million this year, so really only $2 without him so not like the Cowboys are necessarily smarter yet :)

The net effect is cap neutral

If Romo was still here his cap hit would be around 12m and Daks 600k as his backup
As is it is Romo with a 11m dead cap hit and Dak as a 600k backup and Floaty Moore as an 800k backup
We won't see true QB savings until 2019...... Dak's last year of his rookie deal

Interesting...I wonder if we have enough cap space to trade for and sign this holdout:

Then pair him with Collins. :D

Yeah I'd like to see a little more urgency to address our current deficiencies on defense and win now before Dak's big payday.

I can't tell you how much better the scouting/drafting is now compared to what I was used to seeing from 2007-2012. There was a dead hole in time that drastically affected the development of this team. That 2009 draft is going to be legendary in it's awfulness. For around SIX full seasons the drafting was horrible. We missed on around 75%+ of our picks. The epic crash & burn of the 2010 season finally shook Jerry to his core to the point he made serious changes in the structure of the front office. You can point to several things, the elevation of Stephen, the hiring of McClay, the impact of Garrett, etc. It's a combination.

An incredible turnaround has happened in the last 5 years. We now draft exceptionally well, find FA standouts, and have the coaching staff to develop players once they get here.

Witten was extended, thus reducing his 2017 cap charge.

Nice. But we're right at the top currently for 2018.
So adjustments forward are not looking very good.

Sign Haden,

Oh stuff it all you "he'll be a progress stopper" ninnies. He's a much better corner than the guy we will start at CB - Carroll.

Using both draft picks and big cap space on the same player generally not a good idea.

How much of his holdout is money and how much is a protest of scheme change?
