still not really thrilled. i mean, we came back though a bunch of 3s. i'd rather have lost by trying to attack.

like in the lakers game, when the lakers made that huge run at the end of the 3rd, the team just kept jacking up jump shots. so frustrating. while other teams consistently get layups and dunks in the half court offense.

basically, we're still screwed if the team doesn't get fast break points. i see no resemblance of a half court offense. that's part of the reason why the 4th quarter is so bad. the team gets tired, can't run, and the offense bogs down.

and it pretty much coincided with stackhouse and howard not playing

Realistically, we have no shot to win anything this year. I think we should keep Stackhouse anyway since I think his contract ends this year.

As for Howard, I've been wanting to trade him for like a year. unfortunately, his trade value is a lot lower since the beginning of last year.

Your comment about Stackhouse got me to thinking about the current cap situation. We are currently committed to $93M, which is around $35M over the salary cap (currently $58.68M).

Next year let's say we let Kidd and Stack go. That drops our 2009-10 committed salary number to $66.7M, but that number will go up since Brandon Bass will be a free agent after this year (if we don't use him as trade bait he for sure is re-signed) and Gerald Green is on a one year deal. So that number could easily be $70M. And even with those two added that would put the roster at 11, so we'd have to pay 4 other guys at the minimum which would put the number at around $73-75M. The salary cap won't go over $60-62M next year, so we're still a good ways over the cap next year, at least.

In the 2010-2011 season we are committed to only Terry and Diop for $17M. Dirk has an early termination option, so he could opt out along with the other ballyhooed free agents (though will certainly not command as much attention as LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Amare), Damp's salary is not guaranteed, and we have an option on Josh Howard's contract. This should give us about $40M to work with, except I don't know who would come to this team with a 33/34 year old Jason Terry and an old, old Erick Dampier, and nothing else. We could bring back Dirk but he'll be around 34 that year also.

Plus, next year's draft pick is unprotected so we have to hope that we can stay above water without Kidd next year, or somehow convince him to take a one year deal to stay in Dallas, and then let him go after next year.

Also, I may have to take back what I said a few months ago about JJ Barea. I like what I've seen from him in this recent run.

The next couple of years are going to get REAL ugly. Even when we have cap room, I think we should just try ignore the FA market which got us in this mess in the first place. Just try to rebuild from the ground up...except we don't have any picks. Hopefully we can get a pick if we trade Josh Howard.

There's one sure way to get good draft picks in the NBA, but I'm not sure I want to re-do the 90's.

And it ends after two overtimes. Hats off to the Spurs.
Looks like it was quite a barn-burner. Sadly, I couldn't get the game.

Well, he has been out a while.

On a side note, I love how Duncan can get that 10 ft shot off the glass. Not as a Mavs fan of course, but as a b-ball fan. Great shot.

I like what he's giving us right now. But that 3 guard lineup is not going to cut it against the Spurs in a 7 game series.

It was fun having to see Bowen guard JJB.
