How about finding players that like to play football? that might help this cowardly group of Cowboys find a heartbeat. 3-4, 4-3 we need football players on this football team.

Yeah I agree, the problem is Jerry Jones paid a bunch of guys who should have never received new contracts, i.e. Roy Williams the safety and Ken "I can't make a tackle" Hamlin.

hold up, let me get this stright, we had 60 sacks and you people are complaining... ***

Sacks mean JACK in rating the overall performance.

Besides, we would sack the QB on 2nd down and then on 3rd and 18 we would give up the first.

The sack meant jack because we just gave it up on 3rd down.

WHo was it that said sacks were such a key indicator of how good a defense was? We led the NFL right? So I guess that theory goes down the ol calcutta crapper.

Would only happen if we lose all of our FA/RFA linemen and LBs with no signs of good replacements available.

I've said this before (and I'll likely be forced to say it again), but our biggest need on our current defense is speed at ILB and a big run stuffing DT.

Guess what we'd need if we switched to a 4-3? Yep, you guessed it. Speed at MLB and a big run stuffing DT.

So switching would be pointless.

It would also lessen Ware's effectiveness. He's a perfect fit as a 3-4 OLB. He's an excellent pass rusher but is also very good against the run and solid in coverage. He was made for a 3-4 defense.

Making him play 4-3 DE every snap would be like trading away a fortune for Herschel Walker then forcing him into a pro set offense instead of letting him run out of the "I" which was what he did best.

On that note, it annoys me when people say the Vikings got screwed in that trade. The vikings HC was too stupid to use Walker the way he SHOULD have been used. He didn't go from a 1500 yard back to crap in one day. He was STILL a very good runner, playing in an offense that exposed all his weaknesses. If they'd switched to more "I" formation plays they might have won a superbowl. They certainly had the talent (at that time).

Dropping the 3-4 defense saved the Chargers season. This would also mean firing Wade. That might save our season next year.

Agreed! I've always hated the 3-4 defense even before parcells finally installed it here.

60 sacks and hardly any interceptions.

The 3-4 is fine our corners just need to play the football better, even our best corner Newman has some work to do on finding the ball in the air.

honestly I didnt see any major issues stopping the run, the issue was bad tackling...

Well....if you don't tackle - you're not stopping ANYTHING.

Apparently some of you observed the 425 nickel set, which the Chargers used a lot. It's kinda what you have to do unless you want your Keith Davis/Ken Hamlin/Zach Thomas lining up against Anthony Gonzalez. If you think that was San Diego "switching to the 4-3", I vote that you exercise some restraint in putting forth any opinion regarding what defensive scheme the Cowboys should be using.

There is absolutely no problem with our scheme. We have a few personnel problems and more than a few playbook problems, but the idea that switching back to a scheme where our same playbook problems would be exposed and our personnel problems would be amplified is just nonsensical.

C'mon dude. A sack means a loss in yardage, a hit on their QB and a loss of down and usually makes the next a passing down. Can also be a momentum changer or at least it would if your offense wasn't going 3-and-out for 3 quarters. Our defense started being dominate and holding to field goals. Major turn around.
Where they failed was getting INTs and there was no strong presence from our safeties. (Like the Ravens game for example)
(Exception is Killa but the guy is no better then RW38 because he flat-out can't cover.)

The problem with our D this year was that with all the sacks we created, we never created the turnovers you would think you would get with all that pressure....and we really had a problem down the stretch with stopping the run when we needed to get off the field. Though I prefer the 4-3
to the 3-4 as we have never had that stud NT to run the 3-4.

In my opinion, that's primarily because we had Wood-Leg Henry back there alongside a banged up Newman. Hamlin clearly had a down year as well.

Who was our other safety? Oh yeah, we just left that side of the field open!

Seriously, our secondary play was just plain terrible this year. This should have been a very big year for picks.

the bigger issue is the safeties and ILB's dont get into passing lanes, and thats why we dont get more ints...Hamlin and Davis were probably the worst pair of starting safeties in the league this yr...Hamlin's season was a monumental bust.

I agree. I was worried about him taking that big contract and calling it a career. There is a reason Seattle willingly let him walk.
