They decline his 5th year deal to refuse the trade him? Maybe an extension is imminent

Agree 100%. This is what a reasonable organization would do. Drunk Jerry may get a gambling itch and lock him up for life though.Doubt it. Dallas will let him play out a prove it deal this year.
If he plays well they'll give an honest offer.
I'm guessing the trade compensation was equal or less than the comp pick would be if he plays well and signs elsewhere.
You can't be serious. Nobody is offering a first round pick for a LB that has an injury history and has declined since his rookie year. The only reason we declined a trade is somebody probably figured we didn't pick up his 5th year option and tried to get him with a cheap 5th-7th round pick. Use your nogging.I wonder what was offered. If it were a first rounder I would have taken that in heartbeat.

Obviously not worth it for a 5th, at the very least he might be a Sean Lee that can be backup/rotation and still be an injury risk with lesser playing time.somebody probably figured we didn't pick up his 5th year option and tried to get him with a cheap 5th-7th round pick.
A honest extension is imminent.
Besides, we need him for our sooperbowl run
Odds are the deal was some low 3rd day pick with strings and Dallas doesn't want to give up on him right now even though they acquired 3 linebackers this offseason.
Don't think so. I believe they want to see if he can stay healthy and play like he did as a rookie.
Next year, they'll have some decisions to make about their linebackers. Neal is on a one-year deal. Jaylon Smith will make $11.8 million for 2022, but can be cut for a dead cap hit of $6.8 million, saving $5 million. We don't know how the rookies will play. Sure, there are high expectations for Parsons, but while Cox was considered a fourth-round bargain, that doesn't mean it's not iffy how he'll turn out.
So there are a lot of possibilities. Re-signing LVE is not out of the question if Neal is one and done, if Jaylon doesn't play well and is cut or if one of the two rookies isn't up to being a starter. In fact, just two of those things happening could result in a re-signing.
I think it’s two things:
Between he and Jaylon, I’ve got infinitely more confidence in LVE turning it around than I do Jaylon.
- They want to see him prove it in terms of having a healthy season; and
- If he can prove #1 (and of course play well) they would offer him an extension much less AAV than what picking up his 5th year would have been.
I also think LVE’s first half of the season is critical. If he’s healthy and plays well I think you’ll see the Cowboys try to extend him rather than him hot free agency and let the price jack up.
Doubt it. Dallas will let him play out a prove it deal this year.

I suspect it's more to see how his neck holds up this year, and if it does they will be more willing to talk about an extension. They decline his 5th year deal to refuse the trade him? Maybe an extension is imminent
Doubt it’s anything higher than a 5th IMOThe offers have to be horrendous for them to reject.
