Dallas versus Philly

The biggest difference between the Cowboys and the Eagles is that the Eagles Roster is OLD in terms of age vs our young roster.

That's a major difference, no doubt. Look at their offensive players that were out with injuries -- Peters, Sproles, DJax. That's two guys past 35 and a 32-year-old speed receiver.

Of course Dallas is more talented. I don't see how it's even that close. Thought so before the season started.

Their WR core has really regressed. Jeffery is just not a #1 caliber WR anymore, and Agholor will probably struggle to make someone's top next season.

I think Roseman needs to be agressive addressing WR and CB next offseason

Their OL might be an even bigger problem next year. Kelce was thinking of retiring this year and came back. This is definitely OT Peters' last year. If Kelce calls it quits, then they will need a center and OT. And their guards have not played well.

There was a lot of discussion this preseason about talent levels of the two teams but when you look at it now, Dallas is definitely the more talented team. I was thinking about this today and really there are only two positions I would say the Eagles have an advantage - DT (because of Cox) and TE (Ertz and Goedert). Even if you factor in the injury losses, Dallas probably still is more talented. And definitely more talented when you look at younger guys.

- Cowboys have the better TBs. Elliott is better than Howard and our 4th round TB is better than their 2nd round rookie,

- Cowboys have the better WR corps, even if Jackson was healthy. Cooper is the best WR on either team and frankly you could argue Gallup is better than any WR the Eagles have. But when you look at our 3rd, 4th and 5th WRs, they are better than what Philly runs out. Philly runs out Mack Hollins, who stinks, and we are running out Austin.

- A lot was made of the Eagles OL, but the Cowboys OL has played better. And I think if McGovern can come back, we are significantly deeper now too. Football Outsiders has our OL both Top 10 in run and pass blocking.

- QB. Worst case, you can argue it's a wash. Best case, Prescott is playing better than Wentz.

- Neither team is killing it from the DE perspective, but I'd take our DEs over theirs at this point.

- We have three LBs better than their best LB, Bradham. That's a woeful LB corps in Philly. Frankly, I think Thomas is as good as Bradham as well.

- CBs? No comparison. Jones is so far ahead of anything the Eagles have and I like our depth better. Awuzie gets picked on a lot but he's not worse than Mills, who Philly is counting on to be a savior.

- S is the one that surprises me. For all the chatter about Woods and Heath and how mediocre they are, Philly's safety play has been so-so as well. Jenkins looks like he's lost some and McLeod has been so-so. Woods is the highest rated S on either team if you buy into PFF.

I guess my point is that as long as we don't muddle the coaching from here on out, the Cowboys are the better team. Schedules could factor in as Philly has a dreadfully easy Dec schedule, but we get another crack at them and I don't really fear playing in Philly (based on how the two teams are playing now, that could change).
Well said, Syd!

Everything I thought about the Birds roster that was suspect or straight trash, is considerably worse than I previously stated. I said they were old, DL was not good and the LBs and secondary was trash. I said DeSean is always hurt and had no concern about him.

Now add in their OL caving sooner than expected, Wentz's up and down play, Dougie's suspect play calling, and the locker room turning on each other, is turning all their hype into a huge anchor around their collective necks.

They drafted Dillard in the first, so I think they will give him a look before looking for another OT.

Or maybe move Johnson to the Left

I did. " I'd give up a 2nd to get a WR, Safety, or DT who can come in and make an impact for a playoff-SB run, 100% ofthe time."

No you didn't.

The question was about what the Patriots did - giving up a 2nd round pick for Mohammed Sanu - did you want the Cowboys to do that?

Would you have wanted to have given it a second round pick for that guy?

personally, nope. i'd rather give another 1st for a guy like cooper compared to a 2nd for sanu. he's a good WR3 and an avg WR2. not a difference maker imo but bellicheck can work wonders sometimes with players

I thought it was a huge overpay on the part of the Patriots. No matter what their reputation for success might be. Think about it this way, would you take a 2nd round pick for Randall Cobb, our current #3 receiver, right now? Find me anyone who wouldn't.

The Falcons are a trainwreck dealing with a lost season and likely headed for major organizational changes. The Patriots did them a huge favor.

Yes. I'm good with the cowboys trading for any receiver they think can step in and help. We've tested our wr depth and if we can address it then great. Trade a low 2nd now, let him walk in FA and reap a pick later. If he can help us win in the playoffs it's 100% worth it.

Thanks for answering. I wholeheartedly disagree on that one. I think the Patriots grossly overpaid for Sanu and would want no part of it. In fact, I wish we could have sold them our #3 receiver in Cobb for that second rounder.

The sportswriters were all hyped up on Philly's roster and picked them to win the division because of it and an easier schedule,,,, and the "brilliance" of their coach over ours.

Great write up.... especially since I agree with almost everything you said.

We should win the division and if we don't its on our coaching staff.
Question is, if we do win the division, does the coaching staff get the credit also?

Maybe but last minute trades like this aren't about getting value in return. This is about gearing up for a SB run. They have a few guys battling injuries just like us at WR and both starting TE's are hurt for them so they have more need of depth. Would you be ok with this trade if it meant having a healthy #2 or #3 wr in the playoffs? We should go all in this year, make this year count.

No I wouldn't. I don't consider player talent to be this team's issue, but coaching talent.

And if the Pats needed help (while undefeated), there's better ways to spend a 2nd round pick than on Sanu.

I haven't watched Sanu play but clearly they disagree with you. I'm gonna defer to the team who is clearly head and shoulders above everyone else and those coaches think they needed depth. We've already had Gallop, Cobb, Cooper, austin miss time from injuries. For our team i'm good with making sure Dak has enough talent win games. I'd rather have a stud DT, CB, safety but i'll take a wr too.

It never gets old to watch a group so perplexed at how bad their team played in the one game fans care most about. Old players crying about lack of accountability, coaching, a players will to win. Just disgusted. But so enjoyable.

I love how things get spun. Near the end of the segment one of them mentions a bomb just missing Agholar by his fingertips and how he should have laid out for it. Agholar was running full speed after that pass and had absolutely no chance at it. They use it as an example of a lack of effort.
