I can't decided what is more ridiculous:

The Cowboys beat a team and go down in the ratings.

OR

The Commanders lose to the 32nd rated team (after squeaking by the 31st rated team in a 9-6 game) and go up in the rankings.

Which is more absurd?

Skins actually went down.

The Cowboys beat a team they should have beaten and the final score wasn't indicative of how close a game it was.

The closeness of the game wasn't indicative of how much we dominated.

Can you hate more than BSPN does? I'm not saying we are top 10 but honestly...moving us down after a win. I'm beginning to feel this is a college football poll and you have to beat your opponent by 50 just to get respect. Does Clayton even watch football?

17 (15) Cowboys 2-1-0 Tashard Choice and Felix Jones prove the Cowboys can still have a running offense when Marion Barber is injured. (Clayton)

Try being an Iowa fan. We beat Penn St head to head, yet they're still higher in the coaches poll.

Not to mention, we dropped in ranking 2 weeks in a row while winning both contests by a score of 51-18

We're the worst 2-1 team in the league. :(

But at least they have us ahead of all of the 0-3 teams. Barely.

If we had held on against the Giants, we still probably wouldn't be in their top 10. But I'm sure the Giants would be.

You know, you are right. I just got the rankings confused. I was looking at them earlier, and it was Prico's Power Rankings that have the Skins going up despite losing to Detroit and us going down despite beating Carolina. *head asplodes*

I see we are the lowest ranked 2-1 team in the league:rolleyes: . I usually dont care about rankings or what the media says about us. But after last weeks flogging of romo in the media, and steve young last night after the game and the tv hosts and radio hosts, im about to lose it. Ive never seen a team win a game and get degraded like we did last night/today. Its hard to win in the nfl, any win is good. I understand it might not have been pretty, but after the first half we dominated. Even after romo's picks last week it took a last second fg to beat us. i think this team is better than we are getting credit for. Which is why i dont care about rankings or what the media says. But the fact that i cant watch espn anymore is ridiculous. Unprofessional. You cant tell me there isnt a hate for dallas in the media.

We hardly dominated the first.

Other than one drive, we controlled the first half pretty well, too. It just wasn't reflected on the scoreboard.

The point is that a 14-point victory is about what we should have had, given how each team performed in the game. There's nothing misleading about the final score -- the fact that the game was still close in the fourth quarter is what was misleading.

Week 4 power rankings: NFC East

September 29, 2009 3:39 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

The NFC East is still the highest rated division in the ESPN.com Power Rankings, but that could change soon. The Commanders' loss to the Lions cost the Beast dearly in the rankings, which can be viewed here. ESPN.com's Mike Sando, Paul Kuharsky, Jeff Chadiha and the immortal John Clayton are the four horsemen when it comes to voting.

Sando provides detailed analysis to all the voters and then they spend time huddling with their respective families to come up with a final list. Here's where the teams from the Beast ended up after Week 4:

3. Giants

9. Eagles

17. Cowboys

26. Commanders

Clayton pretty much saved the Commanders by ranking them No. 20 after their loss to the Lions. He ranked the Lions seven spots behind the Commanders at No. 27. But Clayton saved his most curious decision for the New York Giants. He ranked them No. 6 behind the Ravens, Colts, Jets, Vikings and Saints.

Kuharsky, of AFC South blogging fame, had the Giants No. 1 and Chadiha ranked them No. 2. I'm not sure what it was about the Giants' dominating performance against the Bucs that led to Clayton ranking them so low.

Sando handed out the highest vote to the Eagles at No. 7. That helped offset Kuharsky's No. 11 ranking. The Cowboys beat the Panthers on "Monday Night Football" and then promptly dropped two spots to No. 17. Clayton still has faith in the Cowboys, ranking them 13th. But Sando dragged the Cowboys down with his No. 17 ranking.

Sando was the only voter who made the Commanders truly pay for their loss Sunday. He had them in the No. 29 hole. Clayton apparently loves the team's upside since he put them at No. 20. There's no way the Skins belong in the top 20 right now. Does anyone disagree?

At this rate, the NFC North will overtake the NFC East by next week. I think the Giants should be at least No. 2 in the rankings and the Eagles and Commanders are in about the right spots. Moving the Bengals all the way up to No. 11 was an emotional response to an impressive win over the Steelers. Are the Bengals the 11th best team in football? I think not.

And the Broncos are way too high at No. 13. I think the 17th-ranked Cowboys will prove that Sunday. Feel free to voice your opinions in the "comments" section. I try to read all your daily message -- before turning them over to the authorities. Peace and Courage.

I feel the same way but I am at the point of not caring what the media says about us. I listened to Cowherd this morning and he was talking about how we were a good team but nothing special which is probably true but he went on and on about this for about a half hour. I care how we are playing but it is not that important to be playing lights out football right now. You don't want to peak in September.

I also agree with your statement about wins in the NFL are hard to come by. I keep hearing 'well they only beat the Panthers'. You wouldn't have heard this 3 weeks ago. The Panthers are not the Raiders or Browns or some team that had low expectations and haven't been good in a while. They won 12 games last year and came to Dallas last night desperate for a win. We withstood their intensity and desperation and won a tough game that we had to win also.

As of yet this team hasn't played a complete game. Play a complete game and beat Denver on the road and you'll see a nice jump in the rankings.

denver is horrible. beating them won't mean anything.

well in fairness they have about the best homefield advantage in football because of the altitude sickness many visiting teams tend to have to fight through in the fourth quarter.

as long as they don't have to fight the team at the same time.
