Originally thought it might have been a high hit with facemask contact. But it's got to be him landing on top of Dak with his full weight. Forgot about that rule.
IIRC the defender can land on the QB. They issue is when they drive the QB to the ground with the full weight.

I was more pissed at Zack Martin than I was Tomlinson. Not sure how he avoids that.
I have never seen Martin shoved aside like that. But it could be a sign he is slowing down a bit. He has talked about retiring after this year.

The good news is it was only that one play. For many of the starters this was their first real game action this year so maybe it was just a little rust on Martin's part.

This matches the leagues recent rules toward protecting quarterbacks from injury, however at the time of the sack the play was not upheld and not called for unnecessary roughness. The league appears to believe it was a missed call with the fine to Tomlinson.

Of course there was no flag! Had a Cowboy done that, easy call for the refs.

Tomlinson was just trying to share his thoughts with Dak...

He drove him to the ground at the end of the play, instead of letting up. Like it or not, that's the rule... if it was Tua and not Dak, most wouldn't have a problem with it.

I'm assuming he landed on him with his body weight.

However disgusting to get fined for that. I'm all about player safety however that is some high-school tackling ****. Seen rougher hits in soccer back in the day
HS kids don't get paid 60 million....NFL protecting their investments.

RULE 12, PLAYER CONDUCT, ARTICLE 11. ROUGHING THE PASSER (link):

Because the act of passing often puts the quarterback (or any other player attempting a pass) in a position where he is particularly vulnerable to injury, special rules against roughing the passer apply. Players in a passing posture are considered to be a player in a defenseless posture. Any physical acts against a player who is in a passing posture (i.e. before, during, or after a pass) which, in the game official’s judgment, are unwarranted by the circumstances of the play will be called as fouls. The following principles apply:
(b) A rushing defender is prohibited from committing such intimidating and punishing acts as “stuffing” a passer into the ground or unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided for in (a) above. When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down or land on top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to fall to the side of the quarterback’s body, or to brace his fall with his arms to avoid landing on the quarterback with all or most of his body weight.

Yeah. It is going to get called. And it will increasingly get called as more quarterback contracts continue approaching the half billion-dollar mark.

Quarterback is, literally, the costliest one in the sport. Owners shell out that money. They will attempt to protect their most expensive asset.

Some fans will not like it and disagree. Get ready to disagree and disagree all the time. So, start up the 'put a skirt on them then' and 'IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR A DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO NOT DO THAT!!!' reactions because it is what it is.

Zach Martin should be fined for not holding that block another few seconds. Big time whiff. Tomlinson had a clean run at Prescott from 5-6 steps away
There are many who will tell you that he's never lost a block, committed a penalty & is still the best G in the league.

Insanity is strong on this board.

To be honest I thought helmet to helmet immediately when I saw the play and then when he lifted him up and landed on top of him I thought it was a bit much but I quickly moved on. Glad the NFL continues to send this message. Us oldsters can say it's a soft play and it is.. but that's the way they want the game to played now. They want QBs to stay on the field because the games look like trash with incompetent QB play. The NFL is protecting the product. Nobody here wants to see wide receivers lining up at QB because a team runs out of them. I just wish they would have thrown the flag right then and there so all this excusing it would be mitigated.. But if you think about.. the NFL got exactly what it wanted.. A forceful hit on the Cowboys QB with no penalty, then a fine later on so as to give the appearance that they care about Dak Prescott.

Looks like a clean powerful hit. Good no call. Hopefully his team just gives him a small bonus after the season to cover the sham fines.

This thread is bringing out the worst of the worst here. We have some pathetic fans posing as human beings.

Not only did he put all his weight on him, but that was also helmet to helmet too.

What’s he supposed to do? I can’t really see where the nfl has an issue here. Looks like helmet to chest and his weight was mostly to the side of dak. The only issue is Tomlinson is such a massive human being.
Never underestimate lawyers trying to mitigate litigation risk down the line. “Hey we fined guys for helmet to helmet hits so you can’t sue us for all the guys with CTE”.

There has always been varying degrees of quarterback play throughout NFL history, including poor play. There is poor quarterback play demonstrated right now (see Deshaun Watson last Sunday).

What has changed over time is the enormous investment owners put into one position. Owners want a return on that huge investment. And they do not get anything in return if that investment is not ON the field.

Seriously. With all due respect, let's keep real.

...and no, he did not get hit because of disgruntled fans on Jerry.
