chris jones is terrible. IDK why he is still our punter. He sucks. Short punts. We can never flip field position with his 30-40 yard punts.

Yet he averages 45.6 yards per punt. One of those physics mysteries, I guess.

I know we could use an upgrade at punter, but one thing we are forgetting about is that he is the holder for Bailey. The kicker and the holder have to develop a relationship to the point of trusting each other completely. The holder has to know exactly how to turn and tilt the ball the way the kicker wants it and the kicker has to trust that once he starts his kick motion that everything will be set up the way he wants it.

Even if we get some crappy punts, I don't want to do anything that would mess up the chemistry we got on the field goal unit.

That puts him right in the middle of the pack in the NFL.

He is not a great punter, but he doesn't absolutely suck either. He is just an average punter that does an average job. Sometimes you get a really good punt, sometimes you get a crappy punt, they all average out in the end.

His job as a holder may actually be just as important as his job punting so I am not ready to make a change just yet.

I don't see him as "terrible". He doesn't have the best kicking power but his kicks are great for our coverage team. Since he's been our punter when is the last time a team ran back a punt on us? Jones gets a bad rep because his leg is not McBriar's but having a leg can come back to bite you as well. We saw that against the Texans how Lechler soon as we got favorable field position they punted and he had to have kicked it 60 yards.....and Dwayne was off to the races.

You know this was one of the most important plays of the game. We tied it at 20 with that FG. If he misses it, we obviously don't tie the game and we just gave them great field position. Dan Bailey has seriously spoiled us. He made one of the most important momentum swinging plays of the game and it doesn't hit the highlight shows cuz he's so automatic. I firmly believe that one could make an argument that without Dan Bailey we would not be 5-1, obviously he won it last week for us.
