No, the official announced #70 had reported as eligible over the PA. It's clearly heard on both the radio broadcast and the Spanish ESPN broadcast. Literally anyone in the stadium that had functional hearing (perhaps it was even shown as closed captioning on the board) had an explanation of the officials' understanding of the situation. The Lions chose to ignore that and run their play regardless.
They did not choose to ignore it. That was the plan to steal the game with a breaking of the spirit of the law ala cheating.

You missed the point dude. The who purpose was to circumnavigate the rules and disenfranchise the cowboys. The only way this slob could win the game. It is classic Bill Bellichick rule breaking akin to stealing calls, deflating footballs, and other plays.
That's about as useful as putting out 53 captains to call the coin toss to somehow confuse the other team. The officials still explain to anyone in the stadium that the call was heads or tails.

So this was wrong. He was not announced because he did not report.
So 70 running in from the sideline, brushing his jersey, which is a sign of reporting is not announcing he is eligible?

Or are you talking about 68?

What is the proper protocol by referees?

A team declares a player eligible. Does the ref crew then immediately tell the defense?

Two players cannot be eligible correct?
The whole purpose is that the defense has to know who is eligible otherwise the rule would be ridiculous.

How is he doing that if the eligible player is reported to the Cowboys defense by the refs?

What is Campbell doing wrong here other than sending 3 guys to the refs in hopes of confusing a player on the Cowboys? Shouldnt the Cowboys players listen strictly to the refs on whom is eligible?

Im not a fan of trickery either...but I dont see what was awful about this. 3 guys sent to ref...only one can be eligible. The defense should listen strictly to the refs, right? Or are you suggesting only the player wanting to be designated should approach the ref? Not 3 guys?

Whether you or some members of the Cowboys roster/staff would have fallen for such an inane strategy is up for debate. To me it seems about as effective as running your offense out after the officials have announced that the other team did in fact intercept the ball. It's clearly announced what the situation is to all involved.

I don't see this as cheating, it's the Lions trying to outsmart themselves.

Bottom line is they are loaded with offensive talent but decide to get cute by throwing to an offensive lineman to win the game.

Amon Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, David Montgomery, Jameer Gibbs........nah, let's convert this with our left tackle.

Unless you believe you've made it confusing enough the ref thinks he may have made a mistake so he remains quiet and there is no call.

This is what a creep Campbell is. He purposefully had two linemen talking to ref while a third lineman races in to report eligibility to PURPOSEFULLY CONFUSE the Dallas defense. This was orchestrated by Campbell who knows the rules inside and out being a former receiver. This is 100% Bill Bellichick bs that he will do anything to win (including deflating footballs, stealing calls, and other confusing plays). It did fortunately backfire and it should have.

So what I want to know is, how many of you on here agree this guy is a creep that will try to bend the rules to win?
I think that's why he abruptly told the reporter in the post game press conference that he did not want to discuss the play anymore. He knew what he tried to pull off was shady as hell.

you have any audio/video proof of the loudspeaker or whatever being declared eligible because I have encountered convos where they are arguing bad call by refs, saying ref lied, etc... if they announced eligible player, that seems like concrete proof

Regardless of whether or not he was mistaken, the Lions were aware of this (by Goff’s own admission) and threw to an ineligible receiver anyway. It is their job to confirm the ref knows who is declaring as eligible.

With the easy officiating is today I'd say it's worth trying to get something past them like this. The Cowboys would complain to the league office, they would apologize, but the Lions would still walk away with the win. Calculated risk. I still would've kicked the PAT after the penalty but I'm not a HC so what do I know.

Not sure creep is the right word, kinda dumb tbh. He was sneaky, kinda like pearl harbor, that was kinda sneaky. I think we can all be a little sneaky sometime

And if it worked and they won, they would be bragging how thy pulled one off. And the media would eat it up and support the cheating.
And some of the fans on here saying the refs screwed up would be happy and ragging on how can Dallas fall for such trickery. When they clearly covered 70 who did legally report.

This is not cheating?? You see this as stupidity? It was orchestrated the prior week by Campbell to cheat the cowboys by not letting them know who is eigible! That is cheating a violation bare minimum of the SPIRIT OF THE LAW

That’s not what I would call a creep. It’s what I would call “cheap”. If you have to resort to those types of tactics to win you don’t respect the game and you’re cheapening the integrity of the game.
