Dan Connor anyone?

I am thinking Dan Connor may be out of the Boys price range and that this was something leaked by his agent. If you can start rumors that the Cowboys or Commanders are in the market for a player you can drive up the price tag easily.

I think a solid realistic option for us may be James Farrior who is expected to be released by Pitt. He comes from a 3-4 and has been the captain of a great defense for the past 8 seasons and is a 15 year vet, so he would provide a great sounding board for Carter and Lee as they grow into NFL starters.

Farrior is done. We need to get younger not older at the inside linebacker position.

I think he was implying that Farrior could play a backup role.

Connor would be a nice addition. I'd also be interested in signing Larry Grant (SF) or Joe Mays (DEN). Between the younger ILBs like these and Jameel McClain (BAL), and a little older vets like Bart Scott and Channing Crownder, Dallas should have some options at this position. No need to hand the starting job to Carter simply based on draft position. Let him earn the job through competition.

Grant is a stud. He filled in for Pat Willis and was rock solid in both the run game and pass coverage.

I also like Connor. I'd just prefer to give Carter the chance to be an every down LB before signing a high $$ player like Connor at ILB. If the coaches have somehow already determined that Carter is more of a nickel LB, then that's a different story.

I'm not suggesting that Farrior start, I think Carter and Lee should see the majority of the playing time. Not sure how that is facepalm worthy if in fact Carter ends up having Navorro Bowman upside, as opposed to bringing in a big money player instead.

Agreed, and Grant would be ideal because he'll be looking for an opportunity to start, and that's not happening anytime soon with the Willis/Bowman tandem wreaking havoc in the middle of that 9ers D.

Grant is probably my favorite ILB free agent option based on the 'Boys needs. He's 6'1, 251, and 27-years-old. And like you said, he played exceptionally well filling in for an injured Willis. Not only can he play the run and pass equally well, but he showed a little pass rush ability as well.

No worries. I guess my main point is that this isn't a position they should be dedicating a large percentage of their available cap to, so a veteran on his last legs or a one-dimensional player might be the answer. The Cowboys drafted Bruce Carter as a 2nd rounder thinking that they'd be getting 1st round value in 2012, and anything that they got in 2011 would be gravy. So far everything has gone to that plan and so I'd like to see Carter get a chance and the Cowboys spend their money on more problematic areas.

agreed. I dont want to ink a high $ guy here either because im pumped to see Carter this year but i do want someone capable and i think Conner is more than capable . He shouldnt cost that much think 2-3 mill (ish) or at least i hope we shall see . 12 day's away can't fraking wait...

I don't think that Connor is even a starter in Carolina. How can signing him to a moderate contract be a bad thing? Bring him in and let him compete with Carter. The loser gives us quality depth. Not only that, but what if Carter is not an every down palyer, then what? You really want to bring in a 37 year old has been..... we have two of those that we can sign from last year's team.

We can sign 4 vet backers this offseason for all I care. We need depth, and playmakers. Our ILB's have been killing us. He and Lee in the film room together? Yes please.

Carter will be fine. I am not comfortable going into the season with Carter being unknown and a rookie, and Lemon. Bring it on Jerry.

Although I'm not comfortable with Carter being handed an ILB job, I do think he makes it unlikely that we spend much on any ILB, which would eliminate Connor.

I think Dallas will be more interested in spending their cap dollars on other positions and giving Carter a shot at starting with a cheap vet brought in for competition. ... So I can't see this happening.
