Dan LeFevour becomes object of interest for Pittsburgh Steelers

Dan LeFevour's NFL draft rumors continue to heat up, with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns considered the most interested.

Given the uncertainty surrounding quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the Pittsburgh Steelers are understandably also looking into drafting a quarterback. But the Steelers do not have a high draft pick to get one of the top first-round quarterbacks, leaving them hoping to land a second-tier quarterback in the later rounds.

The Steelers have a history with Mid-American Conference quarterbacks, going with Roethlisberger, from Miami of Ohio, and Charlie Batch, from Eastern Michigan.

examiner.com: The Steelers brass just re-signed Charlie Batch and also have Dennis Dixon, who was promising last year under center in his lone start. They have also said despite the ongoing Roethlisberger saga, they have not tweaked plans for the draft to take a QB in the early rounds.

But LeFevour could be available in the mid rounds as many draft sites have him going as late as the fourth and fifth round. He also has put up big numbers, albeit in a football conference that doesn't get the Press of a Big East or SEC.

Peter King was thinking out loud about this today. The reality is when you put the best attorney money can buy up against the DA's office it is usually a total mismatch. That doesnt mean Ben's act hasnt worn thin with the Rooneys though.

Ben's a big dummy, and I'd start looking to have a more responsible guy as the face of the franchise if I were Pittsburg. It pains me that this dumb oaf has won 2 super bowls. I think Dixon's a better prospect than LeFevour, and LeFevour will take a lot of work developing if he's ever going to be an NFL QB.

I guess you never seen him play - the kid can play - he would definately be better than Dixon

Smart, makes good decisions throwing the ball, knows when to tuck it down and run... Mobility, can beat you with his legs... Good pocket awareness, very polished, makes good reads... Poised, competitive, confident (a gamer, finds ways to win)... Has set FCS career touchdowns record (150 combined passing, rushing and receiving)... Great upside, did not play quarterback until his senior year of high school... Leader, leaves it all on the field, led Central Mich. to comeback win over Troy in GMAC Bowl.

LeFevor is the best QB to come out this year IMO

I wish we had waited a year to draft QB

I much rather have him than McGee

I watched a couple of LeFevour's games this week. He's pretty good, but being a spread quarterback against less-than-elite pass rushes, I'd be concerned.

Then again, my QB theory would suggest otherwise. We'll see how he does. I think he might be one of the better QBs in the draft and will be a steal.

I've seen him play in person, and I'm willing to bet that I've caught more of his games than 95% of this board. I went to Western Michigan, and went to all the WMU/CMU games during my time there. He's a good college QB. He's big, but doesn't have a very strong arm. He ran that spread for 4 years and it'll take a while for him to get used to an NFL system. He's pretty mobile, but IMO he's a poor man's Vince Young... and I wouldn't want the real Vince Young as my QB.

There's a lot of guys at QB I'd rather spend my time developing instead of LeFevour. Him not throwing at the combine told me all I needed to know. It might be a bit of my bias, but WMU's Tim Hiller looks like a better prospect. NFL size with a stronger arm. Look at his numbers from his junior year. They were very impressive. He had an OK senior year, but his junior campaign was outstanding.

While I do like LeFevour, I like Dixon better... I think that, with a little bit of time on the bench, he's got a much higher ceiling than LeFevour.

Ben's judgment is impaired but he's a pretty good QB. The Stealers need backup just in case.

I'm glad the Steelers aren't smart enough to coach up Dixon. They'd be winning a lot more games. He's much more dynamic than Roethlisberger and is a good passer to boot.

that why the resigned Charlie Batch because Dixon is so great

what hes been the three years

still bet hes got chicken legs - he would not last a season with those skinny legs

a few good hits from D linemen and out he goes
