Dan Orlovsky: 2-3 years before the Cowboys are relevant again

The path we are taking is baffling. This team needs a reboot. There has never been a better time to gut this roster, trade away assets, and rebuild. We aren't catching the Eagles anytime soon and the Commanders look firmly entrenched behind them. The draft is deep at QB next year. Trade Dak for 2 first round picks. Trade Micah for 2 first round picks. Trade CD for a first. That's 5 #1 picks to add to our own giving this team the ammunition and cap flexibility it's going to need to build a contender. We will suck in 2025 but so what? We have no shot anyway.
You’re not getting two 1st round picks for a QB entering his 10th year, coming off an injury and most likely entering his post-prime years.

Agree. Dak will be 32. He is on the downside of his career. He can no longer run and is breaking down. A repeat of Romo's career seems a certainty. Dak won't play during the pre season a lick. He won't play until the games count. I think he will be rusty and brittle and won't play well. His only hope is we figure out how to play smash mouth football and he only has to throw the ball 10 to 15 times a game.

PS. We have a 60 million dollar bus driver. Hopefully he can keep it from going off in the weeds.

Purdy showed he is not what fans in here think he is.
They had as many injuries as Dallas did, He did not carry the team.
He too needs a lot of surrounding talent, including a strong defense.
That wouldn't matter in Dallas he'd be getting paid right now lol

With his contract, age and mediocre play Dak has ZERO trade value. He's a liability.

As shocking as this might be, Dak is more highly regarded around the league than he is on this board. The league views Jerry and his boy as the problem not Dak. Even coming off an injury, Dak has big value; particularly this offseason with such a weak draft class of QBs. There are 4 teams courting Stafford and he's 37 years old looking for a new contract in the same neighborhood as Dak. Dak's age isn't a problem at all.

You might get a 1st for Dak, and I'd like to keep Ceedee as the next guy's safety blanket, but I'm on board.

Also, I think we're going to suck in 2025 anyway
I'm just taking the long view. The "next guy" isn't coming until the 2026 draft at the earliest. I like CD too but this team needs draft resources. Plus, I don't want to see CD pouting about not getting the ball and his production suffering while we rebuild ............

Of course none of this is happening in reality, but it's a fun thing to talk about in the offseason.

Well…it depends upon what he means by relevant. If he means the team will be talked about, then he’s wrong because the team will always be relevant in such a way. If he means the team will be in playoff contention, then maybe. If he means the team will be competing for SBs, then he’s wrong again because that hasn’t happened in thirty years and won’t until there’s a new GM. And that won’t happen until the current one moves on to greener pastures or is medically unfit to do a job he can’t do even if he isn’t.

The maddening part of all this is we still won 7 games. Should have actually been 9 if not for the touch on the kickoff against Cincy, and a sweep of Wash had they just started Rush.

The NFL has some bad teams

Teams are capable of rebuilding in 2-3 years, but the Cowboys aren’t, because the front office values pride and ego over winning.

For sure none of this is going to happen.

The FO has no balls

Too late. Dak would've brought a 1st plus prior to last season. That was the time to trade him, while value is high. Jerry is way too dumb to realize it.

Don't know if CD is even tradeable at that salary. We'd have to take a bunch of it on ourselves. I doubt if other NFL teams value CD as highly as we do.

The Cowboys would have to give a team their first round pick just to take on Dak’s contract. No team’s ownership is giving the Cowboys anything for an oft injured, 32 year old quarterback on a $60 million per year contract.
