It has nothing to do with Quinn or Moore, or little to do I should say. Both teams went all-in to win. The Commanders spent freely in free agency getting players like Frankie Luvu, Bobby Wagner, Tyler Biadasz, Dorance Armstrong, Austin Ekeler, Fowler, Chinn, and more. They fixed their offensive line, improved an already strong defensive line, and made their secondary better. The QB was icing on the cake. Jerry Jones sat on his hands in the offseason and let talent leave - for Washington. And despite already having Payne and Allen, they drafted a quality DT in 2024. Newton is already better than Mazi.
The Eagles have been adding players and improving year over year since 2020, after going 4-11-1. Honestly, if they had a better QB, they would win the Super Bowl this year. But Hurts is inconsistent and sometimes just bad. The Eagles don't win because of Moore, they win because of Howie Roseman and the defense he built. While Dallas signed Kendricks, who was okay but not great, the Eagles signed Zack Baun for a CAP hit of $1.6 million. He made all-pro.
Imagine if Jerry went all in last year. Imagine if he signed a legitimate DT and one of the top RBs? Imagine if he kept some of the defensive talent he let go. Of course we have to imagine what would have been if we didn't have so many injuries too. The Cowboys would have been right in the thick of this playoff thing. But, Jerry did nothing. The team got weaker.
All the NFC East teams are going to do it again. The Giants will draft a QB, before we draft. The Eagles and Commanders will play in free agency. The Commanders have over $90 million in CAP space in 2025, without doing anything. And they have shown they are willing to spend it. I suspect the Commanders will draft a quality TE or WR for Daniels to throw to and use their CAP space to fill gaps in their defense.
If Jerry sits still, as I suspect he will, Dallas will fall behind even further. Regardless of who is coaching any of these teams. Quinn and Moore, along with Biadasz, Fowler, Armstrong and others are experiencing more success because they are out from under the control of Jerry Jones.
