“Good news is we had the most tape on Xavier where we could evaluate him in different spots,” the Cowboys DC told reporters. “Man, can he pick it up fast. I was blown away by football instincts right away.”

It’s always a relief when you find your starting CB 7 days before your Wild Card game.

Imagine addressing this issue in the summer at Oxnard? Nah, too easy. Much more fun to panic buy at positions weeks before the playoffs and have Jerry explain the situation using some weird fable on 105.3 so we feel better about it.

Nobody planned on having both Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis going down for the entire season either. The Cowboys didn't need to address this spot in Oxnard.

Rhodes is a better option than Joseph, Wright, or Mullen so I am all for letting him start in the playoffs if he's ready.

Not like we didnt have two before lost to injury, im just glad were at least grabbing guys to try out. Ol garrett and marinelli would still have joseph out there
My point, and what sailed over your head, was that the depth we carried on the roster wasn’t good enough; and this should have been fairly obvious over summer. Joseph had a horrible offseason and Wright was terrible in preseason. Jerry and Co.‘s insistence to go with them has us scrambling to fill the gaps now. Hooray.

Don’t forget Alexander.

If we didn’t need to address the spot why are we finding their replacements right now?

Of course I’m not mentioning Bland because we’re not scrambling to replace Bland.

I’m suggesting Wright and Joseph should have been replaced earlier.

cause theres this crazy thing called the cap, cant have quality starting players as backups at every position. Though it would be nice for us to stop taking terrible 2nd round picks though

You’re talking about finding better 5th and 6th CB’s lol? No team has good 5/6 corners man. We had a very solid top 4, unfortunately 2 got hurt so 5 and 6 had to play.

Also, you don’t sign veteran starters to be your down roster corners lol. To expect us to go out in FA and sign a starting level CB to be the 4th at best is strange. If your only open spots are 5/6, you try to develop young guys. You’re not expecting them to have to play major roles.

This situation was handled just fine, the injury luck was not with us unfortunately.

That’s true, however this crazy cap thing hasn’t stopped us from signing Alexander, Rhodes, or Mullen.

I agree, similar to the Hankins signing. We have sucked at stopping the run for years yet we get a player off the Raiders scrap heap that is a pivotal player for us. Similarly, why do our coaches not see how anemic the 1st down run to Zeke up the middle is "PLAYED OUT"? Do we watch film of our own team?

Yes, wild concept to look for better talent when it couldn’t be more obvious these draft picks haven’t worked out. The injury luck hasn’t been good for us, you’re right, but I think there’s a bit of a combo for us here.

Our patience to watch Joseph develop when he’d rather drive around with friends shoot guns bit us; and poor Wright just seemingly is always late in coverage should have maybe warranted the FO to seek development maybe elsewhere? Their development is most likely to be a top reason we’re bounced in the playoffs.

Who thinks the coaches planned on giving up on Joseph and Wright back in camp?

Hello... the coaches recently decided they can't trust Joseph and Wright at this point in their careers. The saw the problem, they addressed the problem. End of story.

In 2007 the Giants beat us in the playoffs with DBs that were on the street a couple weeks earlier because they too were decimated by injuries at the position. Injuries happen. We lost two starting CBs and had a second round pick on the roster that we thought could play if needed. We also had a rookie that impressed the heck out of everyone in the summer and proved to be a capable starter. So, I can’t really fault the team for not addressing the issue in Oxnard because in their mind they were at least 4 or 5 deep. Now at the trade deadline after Lewis was already out amd we knew Joseph stunk, that’s a different story.

You’re saying patience as if it’s been 3 years, they were going into their 2nd season brotha. Very within the normal timeline to give incoming 2nd year guys time to develop. You’re acting as if these guys have played here for years and are known commodities.

Joseph played well in his very limited snaps last season, there was no on-field reason to let him go. Wright was a guy who we all know had to take some time. This is his first time playing real snaps for a prolonged period of time. He’s getting better incrementally and was also CB6 coming into the season.

Nobody cuts 2/3rd round picks going into their second season to sign a vet to be their CB 5/6. That’s just not how down roster positions work. If things went your way, nobody would ever develop. There would be only guys who performed well their rookie season in the league. How can you run a team cutting guys after their rookie year because they didn’t make a splash?
