“Good news is we had the most tape on Xavier where we could evaluate him in different spots,” the Cowboys DC told reporters. “Man, can he pick it up fast. I was blown away by football instincts right away.”

It’s always a relief when you find your starting CB 7 days before your Wild Card game.

Imagine addressing this issue in the summer at Oxnard? Nah, too easy. Much more fun to panic buy at positions weeks before the playoffs and have Jerry explain the situation using some weird fable on 105.3 so we feel better about it.
Lol, our front office is so dysfunctional.
If not for McClay, the wheels would be falling off the bus.

You have a viable point, but…

1)It’s part of their job to be positive for both the players AND the fans, and
2)I trust Quinn’s opinion more than most fans on the internet.

Look on the hopeful side: Seattle found a postal worker and a grocery bagger to patrol its secondary during the playoff game that featured the infamous bobbled snap by Tony Romo.

We had Diggs, AB, Lewis and KJ to start the year. Then we hit on Bland. That is a nice chunk of depth.

Let's take this energy to our interior Dline and we can walk shoulder to shoulder.
I’d say you are correct, DT has seen even less resources than CB for the past twenty or so years. When was the last time they took a DT seriously? Glover?

Nobody planned on having both Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis going down for the entire season either. The Cowboys didn't need to address this spot in Oxnard.

Rhodes is a better option than Joseph, Wright, or Mullen so I am all for letting him start in the playoffs if he's ready.
And for joseph not getting it by now

Teams can't really prepare for 2 of the top 3 CBs being out for the season.

Teams usually carry 5 CBs on the 53. They'll never develop draft picks if they carry 5 veterans...

Of course I’m not mentioning Bland because we’re not scrambling to replace Bland.

I’m suggesting Wright and Joseph should have been replaced earlier.
They would have bland with your method of carrying a huge number of veteran players.

I think it went over your head...

We entered the season with Diggs, Brown, Lewis, Bland, and a couple of guys that played ok last season when called upon. That's about as good as you'll find in the NFL. Injuries hit us hard. Tough to prepare for that.

We had three veteran starters and two players we drafted within the first three rounds last year. It's too bad that neither Joseph nor Wright has developed like the team hoped, but with three vets, you are trying to give those second-year players to develop. Not to mention that we had a surprising performance from a late-round rookie.

I can understand believing that we should have moved on from Joseph and Wright in camp, but how often do we want our team to give up on players after just their rookie season? By that reasoning, there are a lot of NFL players who would have ended up being cut before the light went on. Now, if we had been absolutely counting on them, then you have to move on, but we weren't. We had four players playing ahead of them. Losing one was probable. Losing two not so much.

Because neither has stepped up, Dallas has been doing about the best it can since losing Brown to shake the trees and see what falls out. There are positions that I'm not happy about on this team because I don't feel they've been addressed as well as they should have. Corner is not one of them.

Is anyone else skeptical about throwing Rhodes out there not having seen him play a down here? I have to trust Quinn and McCarthy on this one. One thing about it is the Bucs won't know what to make of him either. You know if Wright or Joseph is out there Brady will just sling it in their direction all night. With Rhodes he may be a little more hesitant.

My point, and what sailed over your head, was that the depth we carried on the roster wasn’t good enough; and this should have been fairly obvious over summer. Joseph had a horrible offseason and Wright was terrible in preseason. Jerry and Co.‘s insistence to go with them has us scrambling to fill the gaps now. Hooray.
I mean they found Bland…you can’t really gameplan for losing two corners.

I agree. One can debate on drafting Wright and Joseph. They trusted their scouts and went and got the guys they wanted. But they still addressed the position and found Bland. Just incredibly unlucky to lose both corners for the year.

I’m not. Everyone beside Diggs is getting burnt. Maybe Rhodes can have a impact like Hilton has.

I got a chuckle out of this. But in fairness most teams would be scrambling losing 2 of their 3 corners.

Yes, it's bad luck more than bad planning. Players get injured so you have to have depth, but the probability of losing two of your top three for the season isn't that high, especially with the way IR is done now. Then, Bland's play even gave us a little cushion to wait on Joseph and Wright, but that cushion got pulled out from under us.

I think the Eagles are a good comparison concerning corner depth. They have had their starting two corners all year but lost Gardner-Johnson. Like with Bland for us, they had one more competent corner in Maddox, but when they lost him against us, we picked on the next guy in line (Scott). Now, imagine if they had lost a starter like Bradberry along with Gardner-Johnson, and both were done for the season. Think Eagles fans would be happy with Maddox and Scott as their No. 2 and No. 3 corners, or with the players they have behind them (2021 fourth-rounder McPhearson and undrafted rookie Jobe)?

Our situation is more dire because we lost our No. 2 and No. 3 for the season while their No. 3 and No. 4 are expected to return for the playoffs.

And yet here we are, ironically doing what’s suggested you never do, carrying a large number of veterans to replace Wright and Joseph. What a development we have, year 2 and we’re doing anything possible to keep them from seeing the field.

This has nothing to do with Bland. They’re doing their best to replace Wright and Joseph; the same two that have always struggled on the field since they’ve been here.

It's not ideal but we lost Brown and Lewis to season long injuries during the season.
I can't blame the FO/coaches for at least wanting to see how Joseph and Wright could do year two offseason while having a starting trio of Diggs, Brown and Lewis.
Bland has been a great rookie for this defense.
Unfortunately, the CB duo of 21 wasn't ready to shoulder the load so it is what it is.

Like the short bus rider @Cowboy_svt posted, glad to see them at least sign guys off the street instead of hoping the next week it would click for Joseph/Wright.
