Dan Skipper, OT

Fun fact about Dan Skipper - he blocked 7 FG Attempts over his college career. Picture him and David Irving in the middle on the FG defense team.

This is his writeup from Brugler -

SUMMARY: A former three-star recruit, Skipper originally committed to Tennessee before flipping to Arkansas. He started his career as a back-up before moving into the starting line-up as a true freshman and starting the next 47 games of his Hogs’ career. After starting the final eight games at left guard in 2013, Skipper moved to left tackle as a sophomore, right tackle as a junior and back to the left side as a senior. He is unusually long-legged and tall for the position, which often works against him due to poor knee bend and body leverage. Skipper has enough foot speed and smarts for the NFL, but he has trouble protecting his chest and once defenders get inside his frame, he has zero chance of resetting his anchor. He blocked seven field goal attempts over his career. Overall, Skipper was a model of consistency the past four seasons, but players with his skill-set rarely stick in the pros – when NFL teams are making final roster cuts, his ability on special teams could be the difference.

No offense, and I understand that he needs work, but two time all-SEC is...poor?

yup IMO he should never see a snap on the pro level -

I'm a big Razorback fan, and I hope Dan Skipper improves enough to make the team, but that's just the Razorback homer in me.. I saw too many times where his size was a hindrance more than an advantage. He seems so slow. If he doesn't make contact right away the DE can easily blow past him as he isn't quick enough to adjust to get back on his blocks.

He's slow and not particularly strong - or at least doesn't play strong. It could be his height hurts him with leverage, which makes him look weak anyway.

Doesn't play with a strong base or with much of a punch. Can be bull rushed.

Sounds more suited for WWE than the NFL. Maybe he will show something this summer.

If he is so good why didn't he get drafted? His best bet is a year in the weight room on the practice squad, then we'll see next year.

I'm an arkansas fan. Skipper is too slow footed. Tough as nails. Has a mean streak that fans will love. But he can't be relied upon to pass block. I watched every game he played in college. Just my opinion of course. His only chance of making this team is if we keep him just to try to block more field goals bc he was amazing at it in college.

Love this signing. Skipper's a dawg. No way he doesn't make 53 in my opinion. He plays a little tall and that's really the only knock. If he can keep his pad level a little lower so he doesn't get blown up, he'll be just fine in a couple years to start.

Skipper is taller than any OTs that I know of but perhaps the transition to RT and a year on the practice squad would work to his advantage. If not, the Cowboys haven't lost anything other than the time spent on him. Assuming he's somehow able to overcome his 6-10 height disadvantage for pass protection, it'll only be to his and the team's betterment. In any event, there should be no harm in giving this guy a fighter's chance. Needless to say, playing most of his career out of position at LT likely didn't do him any favors. Let's just see what he's able to do on the other side.

He's a bum to me. But as usual I'd love to be proven wrong.

Come on now... He hasn't done one thing to be called a bum on this board. Is he a first round draft pick, no but certainly not a bum
at this point. A year in the weight room and he might start down the road to being a swing tackle. Give the young man a chance to
grow. This is a tough crowd in here.

I said I may be wrong, but from watching him that's the opinion I came to. I'm not interested in being right to the point that I hate a Cowboy player because they made me look foolish. I want him to contribute! It's never personal. I don't know any of these players.

Probably my favorite UDFA pickup. Played out of position as a LT, he's far more of a RT, but he wasn't bad as a LT either. Has gone up against some big time players in college, one of them being Myles Garrett.

I like him a a run blocker, and his pass protection should get better like it was in 2015 when he moves back to RT. I wouldn't be surprised if he pushes an OL for a roster spot in camp.

Here's a link to his draft breakdown page, has enough film on him for everyone to get an idea of the player he is.

Probably the one people will be interested in most, when he faced Myles Garrett. Though, you might want to check out how he played at RT since that's where he'll end up.

He was one of the top rated T's going into the college season last year. Not a bad pick up.

Let's say this again-

Chaz Green didnt yield a sack-EVER- while playing at UF..... Which includes the above mentioned SEC

Go watch tape on Green the 1st 3wks last year..... It's a thing of beauty!

If Green is healthy, he's easily the best RT option on the roster. No doubt about it. But he's got to stay healthy.
