Been reviewing film of some of these draft picks, and my ideas have changed a little bit about how to approach the offseason. Will continue to put out more versions as I watch more film of these draft prospects.

Resign
Anthony Spencer (1 year small prove it deal)
Dan Bailey (Long-Term)

Cuts
Justin Durant
Miles Austin

Force to Take Pay Cut
Demarcus Ware

Free Agent Signings
Emmanuel Sanders WR (4 year deal) - Steelers already have decided that they will let Sanders walk from all accounts. They are in worse salary cap position then us. Did not have a huge season. Gives us a speed deep threat opposite Dez. Can compete with Terrance Williams for starting gig. Shouldn't get the money he wants considering there are several better, more proven receivers on the market.

Stevie Brown S (1 year prove it deal) - Coming off an injury and isn't going to get what he wants in the market this year. Would rather be given a chance to improve his stock for an opportunity to get paid the following year. Good free safety fit next to Church. Allows another year to see if Wilcox, Johnson or Heath can develop.

Earl Mitchell DT (2 year cheap deal) - Was not a good fit at the nose tackle for the Texans. Would be a better fit in this scheme. Can utilize his quick twitch ability to get up field. Has potential, and I think could be a solid player as a 1 tech in this scheme. Upgrade over Nick Hayden.

Draft

1st RD: CJ Mosley LB - A true play maker for this d. An explosive linebacker that can play the weak side in this scheme, or backup Sean Lee at middle linebacker. Gives Bruce Carter no margin for error. Plus it is a smart business decision since Carter is a free agent next year.

2nd RD: Aaron Donald DT - Solid 3 tech that can start his rookie season. I would like to see him and Crawford battle it out for the starting gig.

3rd RD: Marcus Smith DE - Doubt he drops this low, have a feeling his stock is going to move up and up as we get closer to the draft. My favorite player to watch on tape. So disruptive and explosive. Pushes the pocket, or gets to the QB almost every play. Exactly the type of player we want on this team.

4th RD: Jon Halapio G - Big mauling guard who comes from good program.

5th RD: Ben Gardner DE - Can rush on nickel downs on the interior of the front. His injury concerns might drop him this low. I loved this player. Just a flat out football player. Reminds me of another Dwayne Harris.

7th RD: Justin Ellis DT - Probably doesn't fit this scheme because of his size. But he is a flat out mauler. Watching film of him he reminds me of a younger Vince Wilfork. Have a feeling his draft stock is going to skyrocket after senior bowl. On film, I saw him bull rush double teams right into the QB multiple times. Surprisingly agile for a guy his size. Completely dominant in the run game.

7th RD: Jeff Matthews QB - Huge arm, huge size. Has a lot of potential but needs developing. Comes from a small school. Take a flyer.

7th RD: Ty Zimmerman FS - Take a flyer on a free safety type with good size.

What you think folks? Enough of a defensive make over?

I wouldn't resign Spencer. Other than that it looks pretty good.

I wouldn't pull my hair out if this happened.

I probably wouldn't either way since I like my hair, but the point stands.

I agree with you, I think the Cowboys will choose a linebacker early (first 2 picks)

I vote that I like it, but I don't love it. Great ideas, cool you are far ahead of me in your college scouting. Jerry should wait on Anthony because he is a player without a position and could be gimpy when camp opens. Ware is so far overpriced I can't see a way to agree to a fair reduction and thus would just cut him. Just my opinion. The FA signings and draft look awesome. Look forward to Dan the man 3.0

I thought that it wouldn't be far fetched if Dallas went LB in the 2nd bt the 1st? is that because you have them getting a DT in free agency or do you think they would go LB in the 1st regardless ?

I like it, I'd be happy with those Free Agents but you never know how those things turn out. I also see them giving Carter another year at Will, letting Wilber and Holloman complete at the Sam and drafting a backup WLB in the 3rd to 5th rounds. But if Mosley is BPA at their pick in the first round I'm fine with it.

I like the draft. As for Spencer, you'd need to make sure that knee is healthy. If not, he's no good to you. Also, I don't get the whole "prove it" thing. Even if he proves he's healthy and has a good year, does that mean you offer him another contract, at his age?

I don't really like anything about it. But that's just my opinion.

1) I'd resign Hatcher over Spencer. It might be easier to retain Spencer, but I wouldn't only do Spencer if we got him for an amazing discount.

2) I don't see us going for a WR in free agency. We have too little money so whatever free agents we can get, if any, should be at positions of need. I like our WRs. And I'm pretty sure Sanders had an excellent season, so he'll probably command lots of money.

3) I don't like the #1 pick going to LB. I think our needs on the DL and safety position are much greater. And I don't see Marcus Smith falling to the 3rd. I think our first 3-4 picks need to go to DL and safety.

I don't know what pipe you guys are all hitting thinking players will just sign these deals because we think they should. Someone will offer Spencer a multiyear deal, probably a 3-4 team.

You can't "force Demarcus Ware to take a pay cut." No matter how much you might want to, the CBA doesn't allow it. He can be reworked but likely not for anywhere near the savings many of you think/want.

Gardner won't be there in the fifth.

Smith won't be there in the third.

Drafting a LB in the second with the logic of backing up a starter is ridiculous given all the holes on this defense. I like Mosely but not as a back-up.

Everyone always thinks these incentive laden contracts are some realistic option. Nobody in their right mind is going to take one when they can get a better deal elsewhere...and believe me...somebody will offer them something better...as a matter of fact, it's usually the guy who runs the show here who will offer them something significantly better than they deserve.

More importantly, LOOOOOOVE going LB in round 1

Don't agree with two things:

Re-signing Spencer and taking a LB in the first. That doesn't address either end, def line or safety. I can see it though, lets draft a high LB to compete for a starting job when there are multiple other holes that need fixed first. I know Carter is a question mark and Lee has health issues, but they need a DE or DT first.

If it comes to our pick and the BPA is a LB, trade down and gain another 2nd round pick IMO.

Hate the thought when people talk about resigning spencer. Its time to move on. Build for 5-6 yrs down the road. Not 1 or 2 that spencer would probably give. Then there is Ware. I love the guy but he made his buiness decision when he said he wouldnt take a pay cut. Dallas needs to make the same business decision. Let him test FA. He wont make the 8 MIl he would probably make in Dallas with a pay cut on the market. But if he can then more power to him. I just think people should get ready for another restructure with him. This is where Jerry gets himself in trouble, too loyal to his players.

ES is going to get a better offer then Dallas could offer if they would offer him one in FA. But i would love to have him play in Dallas. Love Stevie Brown too.

Draft, i doubt Dallas drafts a LB in RD1 because basically they have Carter and they spent the whole 2nd half developing Wilber and by the end of the yr he was playing good. I think the have their starting LBers for 2014, Wilber, Lee, Carter with Hollomon backing up any 3 of the posistions. They need depth but they wont draft depth in RD1. Think Mosely would be a upfrade but i just dont see them drafting him when they want Wilber there.

No. Its a win win for player and team. We draft his successor, and he gets a year to bump up his value on the market. Teams aren't going to pay him what he wants this year because of the micro fracture.

You really think someone is going to give Spencer a multi-year deal after a micro fracture? His value is very little right now until he proves other wise. I realize the draft is going to change, and people are going to move up and down boards, this is just what the experts predict their value is RIGHT now.

Did I ever say Mosley would be a backup? He would probably be the 2nd best linebacker on the team from day 1. All I said is it would push Carter, plus its a business decision since Carter is a free agent next year anyway. Build for the future. He would have a starting spot somewhere on this team from day 1.

Oh, and about the Demarcus Ware thing. How can you explain what happened to Doug Free last year? I realize you can't technically force people to take pay cuts. You give them an ultimatum. Either take a pay cut, or hit the road. He has NO leverage, and he wants to stay in Dallas desperately from everything I've read and everyone that knows him.

Lot of 1 year prove it moves. Not alot of margine for error. CJ Mosley is my top pick. But he won't get by the Giants in my opinion.

Switch the $ spent on FS and WR and I'd like it a lot. Sign 1 of the 2nd tier FA FS's (Clemons or Jenkins) and then sign a cheap vet wr to a 1 or 2 year deal. Between Beasley and Escobar I'm not worried about replacing Miles in the slot. A backup for outside WR is all we need.

I would love that offseason but I would rather keep Durant, trade Carter and let Spencer walk. Just don't see him ever being the same player again.
