And another team got better use out of him at OC. He's been a stud for Miami, he was too small at OG and the same issues kept cropping up. He was hardly bad but he's clearly a better OC.
You're making my point for me.

Zack Martin was 6’4 308 at the combine…being 301 certainly doesn’t eliminate someone from playing guard
Well Zach is of course pretty unique; which is why teams like their guards heavier. Certainly he proves you do not have to be big to excel; but is is easier if you are.

Personally, I want lard butts at guard. Guys who can ANCHOR first; movement is a secondary issue as long as they have good lateral agility. Being able to pull is a very good thing but its far from the most important thing being a guard; which is to first anchor and pass protect and then fire out and move the DT for the running game. Dallas for far too long has prized quickness too much and we have ended up again and again with quick guys who get pushed around.

Are we going to reach for Avila or Torrence in the first, I suppose on whether one of them is a ...'must have and won't be there in 2nd pick' (ala Tyler).
I wouldn't have a problem with eith ONLY because they are plug and play LG

Martin isn’t the exception though…1st hit on google for “best nfl guards 2023”

Including Martin that’s 13 of the top 25 list that weighed 310 or under at the combine (Ezra Cleveland was 311). You don’t need a giant guard, you just need a good 1. Anchoring isn’t an issue with proper technique.

Joel Bitonio 302
Shaq Mason 310
Chris Lindstrom 308
Joe Thuney 304
Alex Capps 305
Austin Corbett 306
Isaac Seumolu 303
Elgton Jenkins 310
James Daniels 306
Cody Whitehair 301
Ben Powers 307
Jonah Jackson 306

IMO, JMS is the best in this class, but I see him as a OC only. Torrence is a monster and I would take him at 26 without blinking. Lining him next to Tyler for the next decade sounds great to me.
Tippmon could play either G or C. He'd be a nice pick up, would give us options with Biadasz next year.
Availa would be a good rd2 pick if he makes it there.
Don't forget about Vorhese, he would be a top tier guy if not injured. Jerry loves those guys. I could see him fall and be a steal for us.

I'm not against taking an IOL at 26, but I think the perfect strategy might be to try to drop back a few spots and pick up an extra 4th - I think this draft really stretches, and I think you will still have either one of Torrence, Avila, or JMS available.

I had to do a triple-take when I read Michal-Schmidt would be better than Martin. The only guy you could say that about with a straight face IMO in the last decade was Quintin Nelson.
Did you triple take to my actual post? Never said anything close to that, he’s just a weirdo who decided to add it in for some reason.

Really? That is pretty weird to quote someone on something they didn't say and actually insert false words.

BUT how many of them will excel?

What is the average size of the starting guards in the NFL?

I like Tippmann more than most apparently. Would much rather take him in the 2nd than Avila in the 1st. They are very similar players
I am warming up to him. Like what I have read about him

No, I didn't go back and check that. I was just skimming through the thread and read the quote/message together, Who the hell edits posts they quote? Apologies to you.

Today on the NFL Network (on NFL Now), Jane Slater said that some inside the Cowboys organization view Avila as a more talented, more mobile Ron Leary.

If that is the case, the team is really going to like Avila. Like Slater said, they’ve been trying to replace Leary ever since he left.
I really dont see Avila as a top 30 guy, but that doesnt mean the team doesnt.
