How's that any different than our annual Thanksgiving Day game? Actually, there is a difference. We'll have about 80 players out there this Thursday, whereas we've got 45 on Thanksgiving. Plus, about 28 of those 45 play every down.

This is all much ado about nothing.

The difference is that the preseason is meaningless. There is no reason for this foolishness.

Results are meaningless in Pre season the work however is needed. More so for backup players which is why the starters played 1 series on offense and defense I don't think we over worked them

Ain't ever going to happen, so why do you complain about it? That's like moving to Antartica ask saying "it should be warmer!"

If you want to watch the NFL, then accept certain realities. Otherwise your just a blowhard with nothing constructive to say.

There are 4-5 preseason games. Coaches will play players to evaluate them and give them experience.

Soon, there will be 18 regular season games. And along with that more ACL tears, more broken fingers and more high ankle sprains. For EVERY team in the league.

Dallas will have good players lost for parts or all of every season. That is a fact. So will other teams. That's why it is crucial to have DEPTH, so that your 2nd or 3rd stringer can go out there and still produce.

That's why its important to have a scheme that plays to the strengths of your players, so that players can more easily be interchanged.

Phillips won't be that last major injury this season. There WILL be more.

So, sit back and quit complaining about the fact that there is ICE in Antarctica.

Preseason games are notorious for being longer (and featuring more plays) than a typical regular season game.

Our offensive/defensive plays per game --

2009 preseason: 126.0
2009 regular season: 124.9

2008 preseason: 121.8
2008 regular season: 121.8

2007 preseason: 117.8
2007 regular season: 123.9


Our regular season games during the past three season have featured more plays. In the preseason, teams are more willing to just run out the clock near the end. In the regular season, teams that are behind try to prolong the game as much as possible.

So the owners are going to throw away the revenue from 3 games, at the end of the day the NFL is a business, they are in business to make money and they will never throw away revenue for less wear and tear on the players.

The reason they are discussing 18 is to make more money during the regular season Vs pre-season.

Agreed... this is not an issue. Injuries will happen, but it's not like these guys had to play a full game, most of our starters played less then 13 snaps. And our backup players can use the work.

You obviously don't have a good grasp on what a blowhard is. Because you certainly fit that definition more than I.

Phillips got hurt during the first half of the first game of the year... the only way you avoid that is to not play at all.

Anyone can get injured but your talking about injuries from being overworked and that is not an issue here. The team monitors the situation looks like they will have a light practice then walk through before the next game to rest up.

Your point was disproved. In one of the past three seasons, preseason games were longer by one play per game -- four total plays. In the other two, the regular season games were longer, and for the three-year period, regular season games were longer.

For all NFL games last year, the average preseason game had 123.9 offensive plays. The average regular season game had 125.9. Again, your point is disproved.

I'm not (overly) worried about the starters. As I said earlier in the thread...the bulk of work hits the second string players, esp. if there has already been attrition at a given position.

It's all about trends in the NFL, and the trend line is up. The facts are in: Preseason games were longer last season, and they've started out this season being acutely longer.
