Love the player so wouldn't complain. Wit is on the last year of his deal and Father Time is creeping in, need to start planning for his successor

Does he have any blocking skills? The way the Cowboys run their tight end schemes, Engram has to be able to block to stay on the field all three downs, right?

Jordan reed didn't block well either but he got better at it, Engram can be better than Reed.

Depends on how the team feels about Gathers and Swaim returning.

I'm not a fan of thie pick. It would be great for the offense but I fail to see how that helps the Cowboys biggest weakness - pass rush.

I hate the pick. We can't even use the last 3 TE we wasted 2nd rounders on!
Give me a CB, DL, hell even a RT. We can get better value in later rounds with this TE class.

I suspect we'd take several remaining players before him at 28.

Charlton would be one of them.
Mike Williams too...regardless of perceived need.
Marlon Humphrey maybe?
Does the team like McKinley?
Many others

Every player after our pick I would take. Personally if Mitch Trubisky is the at 28 how in the world you don't pick him to trade or trade that pick. A franchise QB on the board with teams wanting to jump back in the first round. I would think Houston takes him, Browns etc.

They'd have to adjust their offense to accommodate a guy like Engram.

They couldn't do it with Escobar so I'd consider this pick highly suspect.

Ridiculous. Plus, we have Swaim and Rico right?

I don't want a TE early but we do not have a TE ready to take over for Witten. Swaim hasn't done much and Rico is a joke at this point for the future.

I agree with the ridiculous part for him though :)

He's not one of the 2 TEs I would take at 28. But let's not kid ourselves here. Written is a shell of himself and if he doesn't retire next year, he doesn't need to be re-signed. They need speed and athleticism in today's game and Njoku and Howard have that in spades. Neither of those should be looked at as huge contributors on this team next year, but if they are catching passes up the seam for the next 8-10, it doesn't really matter.

Mayock thinks he's a really underrated blocker. That said, I don't think you'd want to use him in a traditional inline TE way. He'd be ideal if you're looking for mismatches spread out the way New England use to use Hernandez and the way the Skins use Reed.

That said, I think he blocks well enough to have him in our backfield as an occasional h-back that could be flexed out to create mismatches with LBs or CBs.

It's bonkers when I see people say "Witten can play 2-3 more seasons!"
