Ok, so lets draw the line here...

Who was on one side (with me) and just had a gut feeling Danny would fumble the punt

And

Theres the majority of the board who were probably seeing him waiting for the punt and thinking (ok heres the next Wes Welker slash Devin Hester). The lets see how many TD's he will get from PR's tonight alone crowd.

After his fumble I just thought it was too Ironic. Also, speaking of hype, who was the other hype machine this camp/offseason? Thats right, Stanback. His Kick return wasn't all that great either. Running in a perfectly straight line and fumbling.

Hopefully this hype is dead now that these two didn't do anything tonight and probably never will.

Stanback absolutely appeared to have no kick-returning instincts. Amendola is what he is--an undrafted kid with some spunk trying to land a spot.

One thing I'll give the Amendola-is-the-next-Welker crowd. It took Welker how many teams and how many seasons to become relevant? If Amendola is truly the next Welker, you're probably not going to see the results right away. It'll take time learning the game, coverages, routes, etc., and learning how to package that knowledge with his jitterbug nature in order to become successful.

It reminds me of fans of other teams who say, "Maybe ____ (a rookie) is the next Tony Romo. We should start him right away!" Romo became Romo after years of hard work on the bench. The "Next Romo" isn't a kid who starts and succeeds from Year 1 in the league.

I think we can wait a little while yet before we go declaring the busts and the beasts. One is a rookie and the other is playing healthy for the first time in two years.

Tough crowd. :bang2:

What about like this?

Neither Danny Amendola nor Devin Hester will ever be very productive as NFL WRs.

Danny did not help himself tonight, but it is too soon to write the kid off. Danny needs to really step up next week and make some plays or he is probably not making the cut.

It is only one preseason game to go along with the performance in camp. So I would not call anyone a "stud" or "bust" based on this limited information.

I hope the coaches can make wise decisions when selecting the final 53. The last cuts are going to be tough.

It would be kind of hard for him to be a "bust" considering he wasn't drafted lol. Amendola needs to carry his practice performance into the next three preseason games though. I'm rooting for the kid, it'll be interesting to see how things work out.

What kind of so-called Cowboys fan roots against players like this??

Honestly, I don't think he should be returning punts. It should be Adam Jones. Adam needs to knock of the rust that he has in not playing for a while. And I think this was the first time that Danny has ever fielded a punt right? I could be wrong.

I am sorry but I just can't follow the logic of most people after the game on Amendola. What did Amendola do that warrents any feeling one way or another?

My questions:

1. Is the PR fumble really a big deal? I've read most of the Amendola hype in camp. I don't seem to remember any Devin Hester talk. All I heard was Wes Welker reception talk. I had heard all about what options we had on PR's. I heard Pac, Felix the Cat, Stanback, Miles Austin, and Patrick. Never Amendola. I was surprised he even took the first punt. Did I miss something?

2. Is a single PR fumble (on what I think was his first NFL play) a huge worry sign. (Even if they were counting on him for PR's) He seemed to field the ball well which is more than I can say for the othe PR's. Yes, he got stripped. But its the first real contact in the NFL he's had. I would think we and they would want to see more there.

3. Did anyone see anything worrysome in the passing game? I saw a single incompletion in his area. But it looked like just another bad play from Bartel. I didn't see any of his route running, blocking, or anything else. I very well may have missed something and I'm really curious here.

I was wondering why the hell he didn't call a fair catch.

Don't be a f'in hero. Call the fair catch and get off the damn field.

I don't care how well he's been doing in practice, if he can't hold on to the ball I don't want him on the team.

Pleas excuse me if i don't join in the judging of Amendola's WR abilities due to a fumbled punt return :bang2:

Think i'll wait and see what he can do at WR before i cry bust

point is he has to be able to play special teams to make the team, and at 180 lbs that means returning kicks cuz he won't be running down and making tackles at that size.

If he can't hold on to the ball on returns then he's useless.

He's probably never going to be returning punts or kicks here even if he makes the team with Adam and Felix on the team

So if he won't return kicks, and won't be able to cover kicks, and won't see the field as a WR... why exactly do you want him on the team?

Cheering for the "underdog" is one thing, but if he's useless to the team I don't want him on it.

And if he DOES make the team he WILL be returning kicks (when he's active).
