Some of our better non-QB passers:

Drew Pearson: 5 of 7 for 192 yards, 71.4%, 3 TDs and 2 INTs, 113.7 rating. He was 4 of 4 for 166 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, and a 158.3 rating (that's a perfect rating BTW). Then he went 1 of 3 for 26 yards, 0 TDs and 2 INTs.

Calvin Hill: 5 of 12 for 204 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT. His rookie season he went 3 of 3 for 137 yards and 2 TDs with 0 INTs and a perfect passer rating.

Dan Reeves: 14 of 32 for 370 yards, 2 TDs, 4 INTs. In 1967 he went 4 of 7 for 195 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT.

Ron Springs: 2 of 7 for 45 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT.

I would really like to see us utilize the HB-Option pass more often.

Forgot to add...

Robert Newhouse: 1 of 1 for 29 yards and a TD in SB XII against the Broncos (it was to Golden Richards late in the game and pretty much sealed the deal).

Robert's pass was a thing of beauty, just over the Broncos d-back who actually had good coverage on Golden. I remember Newhouse saying that when the paly was called he had stick'em all over his hands. He said the only thing he could think to do was to lick his fingers to try and get that stuff off them. I bet it tasted like crap:eek:

The guy is so obscure that his name doesn't even register on the Pro football reference web site, and you found a picture of him.

You amaze me bb. You amaze me.

Then one more won't hurt. Honestly, I never heard of the guy either.

Yes. A QB can only be an eligible receiver while in the shotgun formation.

I think Staubach's and Aikman's receptions were off of batted passes, which is why they went for negative yards.

I remember that being mentioned during the telecast of those games. I wonder if it's still a rule and how it's worded.

Is it that whoever takes a direct snap from center is an ineligible receiver?

Did any other Dallas QBs catch a TD pass?

Romo this year split out wide in the Razorback, beating Deangelo Hall on a fly pattern.

Oh yeah.

I found another TD pass that Robert Newhouse threw in 1975 vs the Lions. A 46-yard TD pass to Drew Pearson in a MNF game.

He also threw an incomplete against the Rams in the opening week that year.

SportsCenter, Total Access and all the others will have a field day with that one.

Belden was the Cowboys' third string QB in 1969-70. He was a 12th round draft pick in 1969 out of Notre Dame.

Fans of the 60s era Cowboys will remember Belden. Interesting factoid: Calvin Hill, Dan Reeves, and Lance Alworth all had more pass attempts than Belden!

So, the stats say Danny White had 2 receiving TDs in his career. Anyone old enough to remember the plays? ;)

I remember the one against the Browns in '85. When he was interviewed about it he said he learned how receivers felt running out there waiting for the ball.

The other one against the Raiders (Dallas lost the game 40-38 if I remember right). Absolutely neat watching Danny catch those passes ;)

I also remember John Elway caught several passes out of the shotgun.

I would love to see Romo do it sometime this season
:D

As far as I was able to determine, Staubach (1 for -13) and Aikman (2 for -19) are the only other Cowboys QBs to catch a pass, but obviously neither scored on them as all 3 receptions were for negative yardage.

I know this is an old thread that got bumped, but we can now add Romo to the list -- and his was for negative yardage, too.
