Are you guys out of your minds?
From a non-Cowboys fan's standpoint:
Simon is a pretty good player. He's an above average pass rusher with average to below average run stopping ability. The money he's asking is completely unreasonable. The Eagles have very good management, which is something you all have to realize, despite your hatred for them. For the past 6-7+ years, they have made nothing but smart moves. There's a reason they didn't pay him. FYI, being drafted high doesn't automatically make you an all-pro.
From a Cowboys fan's standpoint:
We're in the process of converting to a 3-4! OK, this year isn't going to be 100% 3-4, but we're making strides to get there. That's the reason Dexter Coakley was cut loose. That's the reason Jason Ferguson, Demarcus Ware, etc. were brought in. Even while we're in the process, on the downs where we are in 4-3, nickle, or dime, we're set at DT! With that being said, why would we bring in Corey Simon? He's a pass rushing DT. The goal of the DT in a 3-4 is to tie up as many blockers as he can in order to allow the LBs and DEs to get to the QB/RB. That's something Corey Simon would be incapable of. The only reason to bring in Corey Simon would be to be a DE in the 3-4. Of course, he has absoulutely no experience in the 3-4 or at DE for that matter, so it's not possible.
All that, plus consider the amount of money we already have tied up in the DL. I don't have exact numbers, nor do I feel the need to research them, but I think it's safe to say Glover, Ferguson, Ellis, and Spears are all making a healthy coin on our DL. There's no reason to put more money into our DL.
The same people that are screaming to get a new QB, WR, FS, etc. are probably the same people wanting to sign Simon right now. We sign Simon, how exactly do you expect to pay for a 1st rounder at QB or WR next year? Sure, it's possible, but down the road, it'd probably result in having to let one of our young superstars (JJ, Roy, Newman, Ware, etc) walk.
