He is still available, had 10 picks last year. Plus we are making a run for the super bowl now this year. Would you bring in Darren Sharper? He has won a ring, knows what it takes to get there, improves out biggest weakness on defense and is a playmaker.

I would do it, release Hamlin draft a project FS in the 3rd-4th round like Major Wright out of Florida, and run with Sharper with M.Hamlin and M.Wright learning from him, and in 2011 start whoever is better in M.Hamlin or Wright.

We could have had him a long time ago.

Alot of people on this forum were really against it, due to Pat Watkins' height.

No. Darren Sharper was a huge component of the Saints' pass defense. He made New Orleans defense a lot better. In my opinion, our defense is much better overall than theirs and does not need Sharper at safety; but it does need more of a ball hawk than Ken Hamlin also.

We could have had him like 4 different times

So yea, Jerry wont admit a mistake and get him now. When theres a chance hes done anyway

We need more INTs. Way more. I think he'd be a good addition.

This was discussed ad nauseum in another thread - use the search function.

Sharper is old, banged up, and expensive.

I'd rather trade up for Earl Thomas.

I had no idea people were waging war with lagers and stouts these days.

34 years old, you can lose it overnight playing secondary in the NFL.

:hammer:<-- And that's taking into account that I'm personally not in favor of trading up at this point (e.g. March 25th).

Fixed it for you.

HEY?!? Does Sarge know about this thread yet? :D

I'd wait until after the draft. If I got a young safety and I could get Sharper on a short deal then i'd do that.

A FS doesn't make or break our defense, so I'll pass.

In our scheme, Hamlin was thrown at 15 times last year and 26 times the year before. Over the past two seasons, Hamlin has played in 28 games. That means he was thrown at about 3 times every two games.

In the past two seasons, Sharper has been thrown at a total of 76 times. In that time frame, he recorded 10 interceptions. That means that Sharper intercepted the ball 13.2% of the times which he was targeted. If he were targeted at the same rate as Hamlin and he maintained his INT rate, then he would have had 5.4 INTs over the past two years.

The truth is that Sharper's production last year was, most likely, an anomaly. The odds are against him recording another 9 INT season. With that in mind, that would drop drop his impact on our defense even more.

This is also why we won't be drafting a safety in the first round.

Darren Sharper has proven himself to be a playmaker. Look what he does as a hired gun every year. Sure he may be damaged goods, but lets not talk up Ken Hamlin here

I'm not talking up Ken Hamlin, I'm saying that the FS position just doesn't get a lot of opportunities to make plays in our scheme. They just aren't thrown at very often. Sharper is a play maker, I'm not disputing that, I'm just saying that he wouldn't have a large impact on our defense.
