Dave Campo.. and Mike Jenkins

Campo is the problem. He's solid with teaching corners technique and footwork but when it comes to playing the ball his philosophy is different.

Campo teaches his DBs to play the WRs eyes. That's why every corner we've drafted and he's molded, all look the same. They never turn their heads.

I hate the way he coaches the secondary and corners, his style has been the same since he's been here and hasn't changed.
It's, make the opposition dink and dunk their way up the field, keep the WRs in front of you and hope that they stall. We hardly every play bump and run coverage because he's afraid to get beat deep.

How many times must we see our DBs 7-10 yards off the WRs and allow hook routes, slants and skinny posts? The reason why average QBs like Grossman, Sanchez or Moore look like Pro Bowlers is because Campo's style helps to get QBs and receivers into a passing rhythm and get confidence throughout the game.
Thats why the opposition starts threading the needle and making throws and catches like that one handed grab by Bess from a perfect throw by Moore on 3rd down.

I think the reason why Jenkins turns his head in coverage is because he hasn't been ruined by Campo yet.
Look at Walker... he doesn't play like a Cowboys DB. He's physical as hell, grabs, holds and turns his head.
He has that Ravens/Steelers mentality. Our DBs are coached soft. If Jenkins and Scandrick were on those teams and taught their technique, they'd be Pro Bowlers.

I think Campo is the problem too. Not looking for the ball has been a trademark of his since he has been here. I was watching the 49ers and Ravens corners play the ball last night and I got extremely envious. I wish Rob Ryan had hired his own DB coach, but with the lockout I don't think Jerry wanted to change any more more than he had too.

Teams are going to continue to throw it up against us unless we make them pay for it. Jenkins seems to be the only CB not listening to Campo's coaching.

I think it originates for some people when a few years ago one of the DBs (IIRC Newman) said that Campo teaches to the DBs to play the WR's eyes, not the ball.

I agree though, Jenkins has never had a problem making plays on the ball.

Somebody needs to tell them if they are going to get burnt they will get burnt weather they turn their heads or not....

Yeah there just isn't two ways about it, this secondary is bad (Mostly CBs)

You just feel like if the DL doesn't get pressure and the QB gets any time at all it's a guaranteed completion down field. Another thing is we just seem to leave WR wide open, like, WIDE open.

Too much pre-snap confusion on the defense, particularly in the secondary.

Aside from Brandon Marshall beating Newman off the line last week, every other big play is the result of someone thinking that someone else had a certain zone, etc.

Our guys aren't in sync that often in the secondary. When they are, it's beautiful to watch. Otherwise we get gashed.

But stop freaking out - we held them to 13 points in regulation. The defense played well overall. The offense didn't get it done today, and Jason Garrett cost us the game with his self-ice of Dan Bailey.

Throw this one in the garbage can and hope it gets better...but the lack of adjustments against the defense shined through bright today on offense.

He is our best cover guy, he sticks to his man.

The PI's he had last year, weren't deliberate. Like Newman this year. Newman's coverage just hasn't been the same, trust me, I defend Newman to the end, but i see he is on the decline

Even so, 2nd and 19, when the guy is running a short route, why are you grabbing him up? It made no sense.

I understand why you still like newman.

Don't take it personal man, you know i always enjoy your opinion.

But i just have to give up on him. Like i said before, as long as he has a star i will still root. For any cowboy, as long as it means we are winning, i want them all to do good, but it won't mean i wont have any thing negative to say about them
