David Carr can be had in exchange for a third-round pick?

I think he would be a great backup for a 4th round draft pick. That said you don't really trade a pick even that high for a backup quarterback.

A straight up 4th round pick would be too much, but a conditional 4th may not be too much for a back up QB.

It is a little early to be making deals, but Dallas will have to find a good back up for this season. There could be worse out there than Carr. There will also be better and Dallas needs to find one in case Romo gets injured or even if he doesn't improve as we all want.

I would love David Carr here ..... he has alot of talent. And I think still young enouth to fix.

a third is pretty cheap insurance for a young veteran QB with proven durability. the upside on carr is good. and the change of scenery should really help him.

I agree....
It worked for Harrington...some places are just garbage franchises due to coaches, owners, ect...and hardly anyone looks good there. I don't think Carr would threaten Romo to start but I think he'd be a much better option than most vets out there...even for a second day draft pick. Look back on the Aikman years and recall how many key, mid-season games the likes of Jason Garrett and a few other choice QBs had to start and win for us. I think Randall Cunningham might even be in there somewhere.

I'd consider it for a 4th as a backup, because we'll need one. But I worry about that because he would have a pretty large contract, no?

I would take him. He is mobile and he can make all the throws. He just needs to be on a team that has defense that doesn't give up 20+ points in the 1st half. The only down side is he may have what afflicts Bledsoe, the phantom rush.

Harrington had a lower QB rating this season in Miami then he did the previous two seasons in Detroit.

It didn't "Work" for him.

I think Carr can still be a good QB; getting sacked 249 times in 4 seasons is INSANE. And he is not immobile either.
Also, as was pointed out, he is very sturdy.

just sign Tim Rattay and save the draft picks.....at least Rattay has won more than a handful of games in any one season.
