Daviyon Nixon

Walterfootball is much more credible than kiper and mcshay lol. You serious?

Yes I’m serious that Kiper and McShay are better connected to who teams like than Walterfootball. Very serious about it in fact

Wow. This is the first I heard of possible tip 10 consideration. Where is that chatter coming from?

he's one of the dt's i like.
love iowa players.
solid program.
good coaching.
they always seem to have football i.q. and be sound in fundamentals.
i also like ot alaric jackson and de chauncey golston.

Nixon almost looks like an oversized LB. He looks athletic and doesn’t seem to be overwhelmed in the run game. Not a lot of tape on him and individual workout for him is going to be crucial.

It's very possible he could rise through the process. I read something awhile ago off of Walter Football, says the NFL people view him as a late 2, early 3, but could move higher with a strong off-season. As I said earlier, heard there might be some character/immaturity concerns with the player as well.

I haven’t heard any character concerns, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

We’ll just have to wait and see where it all shakes out in a couple of months. Maybe he will rise enough for 10 and Dallas take Surtain. Who knows? But I do really like his play and the position he plays.

Only thing I’ve seen is a learning disability that caused him to have to go the CC route to get his grades up before going to Iowa...which is obviously not a character concern. Seems like a pretty kid great from the interviews I’ve seen actually. But I’m not going to pretend to have any inside info, could be something floating out there...

Bet you could trade back 4-5 spots and still get Nixon. DT’s always go later than people think they will. Look at Kinlaw last year

You need to get off that garbage site.

Obviously I know they don’t mean a ton at the moment...but Kiper put Nixon at 10 and McShay at 13 in their 1st rankings. Again, it’s way early and I’m not saying Kiper/McShay are the end all be all, but at the same time they are indeed highly connected and wouldn’t rank a guy that high if they weren’t hearing hype about Nixon from good sources.

Not saying the Cowboys will or won’t take Nixon, but aside from a handful of people the general consensus here is that Nixon doesn’t belong in the conversation at pick 10 from a rankings/talent stand point and I don’t quite understand.

Just listened to yesterday's draft show and Nixon's name came up. Both Broaddus and Bucky saw Nixon more of a 2nd rd valued player. This is where he lies on many big boards around the net. Outside of Kiper/McShay, there isn't 1 other source that projects him as a top 10 talent. Tony Pauline, who has predicted draft slots over the years very well, who has legitimate inside NFL sources, has him as the 59th overall pick with a third rd grade. Kiper/McShay were the same people who recently mocked Shaun Wade as a 1st rd pick.

The draft process just started, where prospects can certainly rise, but due to such a poor DT class, I hope players don't rise cause of lack of talent at the position.

Kiper never knows what hes talking about so no surprise. Pff said the same as Bucky as well. I dont get the Nixon hype

Bleacher Report - 1st round, 17th overall pick (Las Vegas Raiders)

USA Today Draft Wire - 1st round, 29th overall pick (New Orleans Saints)

ESPN (Mel Kiper Jr.) - 1st round, 10th overall pick (Prospect Rankings)

The Draft Network - 1st round, 17th overall pick (Las Vegas Raiders)

CBS Sports (Chris Trapasso) - 1st round, 26th pick (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

ESPN (Todd McShay) - 1st round, 13th pick (Prospect Rankings)

Pro Football Focus - 1st round, 22nd pick (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

A lot more guys have him round 1 than round 2.
His issue will be how he tests.
He only played 1 year of high level football because he was a JUCO kid then had to adapt.

He had a hard time coming up and that probably contributed to his slow development but he was the defensive player of the year in the Big 10.
He was an all American out of no where. It's hard to get those awards without multiple years of success.

He is a pure 3T guy as a very lean and fast DT. At 6'3" and 309 he carries a very low bodyfat % and made a ton of plays last season but only that one season.

BTW, Alabama tried to recruit him out of JUCO but late in the process so he stuck with Iowa.

Some of those mocks are ridiculous but whatever. Even though I'm not a fan I'll take anything on the dline at this point.

I love this #54. Makes plays. Disrupts running games, gets into the backfield. High energy guy. Boys have not had solid DT since Jasoin Hatcher and Jay Ratliff. Malik Collins sucked after his first year. I am tired of dead weight that is pushed backwards. I want playmakers. Daviyon is a good kid with a strong father figure.

If we trade down a few picks and get an extra two, perhaps we get back into 1st and take the #3 rated CB and still have our #2, two 3's and two 4's to supplement our immediate starters from round one.

I have seen great DT's since Bob Lilly then Randy White. Davion is bursting at the seams to be a dominator. He is quick enough to play DE as well.

I want this big dude on the BOYS.

I don't mind the idea of trading down a few spots and either getting him or Barmore. I know some think we could get them in the 20s, but I'd rather not drop below the teens. Once one of them goes, the other is likely to follow fairly quickly.

I'd hate to be the one Debbie downer on Nixon here. But I'm not as high on this guy as everyone else seems to be. Most of his highlights are of him doing something really athletic like intercepting a pass and outrunning everyone to the end zone. Which is great, but I only counted two plays were he looked good taking on a block or splitting a double team.

I see a super athletic defensive tackle with an outside chance of turning into a La'Roi Glover type DT if he adds strength. But I think he is too much of a finesse DT who uses his athleticism to run around the OL. Which has its place don't get me wrong. However I think he would get eaten up by NFL offensive lineman. Especially against the run.

I could very well be wrong, but I think he has a high chance of being a bust.

Neither Nixon or Barmore are close to being finished products. Both are excellent athletic specimens that still need to grow their game. They will go high because both have Pro Bowl caliber potential in a year that is very weak at the top. Interviews will be key for them. That is what is going to tell FO's if these players are coachable enough to hit a high ceiling.

Think Barmore would be better for us. It’s not that I don’t like Nixon but he doesn’t look that big it the video clips. I’m worried about his size playing in the trenches in the NFL. Would love for one of the QBs to fall and come away with an extra 2nd, that might be the only way we get one of these guys and still have the ability to get a CB and Safety.

That's reality with basically any DT you draft.
These guys aren't really finished products at 22.
You gotta draft and develop them OR you grab bottom of NFL types who have been developed but just hit a ceiling elsewhere.
Good defensive teams grab these guys and develop them while bad defensive teams keep taking shiny object offensive guys that offer more immediate return.

LaRoi Glover wasn't a regular starter until his 3rd season.
