I’d be interested to see the last time a 9 sack Bama or SEC DT went in the 3rd round.
I’d be surprised if Mathis is sitting there in round 3. His workouts will tell the story. At this point his tape is too good to just say he’s a 3rd rounder. Bad workouts or red flags would definitely push him down draft boards. But I won’t make that assumption at this point.

Are you suggesting they are similar players or are you just talking?

I don’t understand what you’re asking? You asked about the last time there was a Bama d-lineman that had 9 sacks and was taken in the 3rd round.

In terms of talent level, I think Mathis is somewhere (+/-) around the level of Barmore and Raekwon Davis.

In my “rankings” I think Mathis slots somewhere between 75-100 in terms of prospects. He could go higher on draft day. The draft doesn’t unfold like “Joe Blow is the 18th best player so he got selected #18 overall.” Teams have different needs.

No....JAG that hustles. Hell Justin Hamilton was better...and we let him go.

Watched Mathis the other day and I am not high on him at all. He is athletic for his size but not elite, probably 50th-60th percentile of NFL players. Doesn't anchor well, and as a 23 yo redshirt senior, he already has all the physical edge vs OL that he is ever going to get.

He reminds me a bit of Maliek Collins as a rotational-type 3 tech with little power. Collins has had a normal career for a 3rd rounder, but you wouldn't want to take him any earlier than we did. I'm not taking Mathis early either.

Also, I think looking for a 3T in this draft is barking up the wrong tree. I'm high on Gallimore and not looking to replace him as a starter... he can stop the run and rush the QB when healthy. I'm not sold on Osa, but he showed enough to where I would still give him snaps this season. Adding another 3T to try out just creates a logjam there. We need a 1T badly, and Mathis isn't it.

Agree, we need a 1T not another 3 unless it’s a clear cut upgrade. Not sure that dude is in this class.

Davis, Jones and Ridgeway look like decent 1T options.
