Just saw this on espn, he did not sign for 2, he signed for 5.

The Denver Broncos continued adding to their roster at a torrid pace on Saturday, making three key additions on defense.
The team announced it had signed seven-time Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins, who spent his previous 13 years with the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to a source, the deal is for five years and $17 million. The deal could escalate to as much as $27 million if Dawkins can reach some achievable performance levels

there is no chance that guy plays for 5 more years, so it's probably a great move for denver, depending on how the deal was structured.

I heard it's really a two year deal with a club option for the third year. We all know Dawk will never see 5 years. Anyway, with 41 million in cap space it's hard for me to believe the couldn't show him some love and made sure he retired as an eagle.

I was listening to WIP last night and a caller made a good point. He said maybe dawkins was upset at Mcnabb for calling out the defense after the arizona game and maybe he took that personally. Ike resse said Dawkins has been preparing for this moment for awhile.

agreed . Sick of seeing this guy constanly get away with all those late hit's and cheap shots and have to hear the announcers kiss his butt all game.

You know, having gone to Clemson just like Dawkins myself, I was hoping for a miracle so he would close out his career as a Cowboy. I knew in my heart that it would never happen. Still, I REALLY wanted to see that happen. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to draft another Safety from Clemson in Michael Hamlin.

How Dawkins plays the game with his kamikaze style they give him 5 years??? How stupid. This move makes Jerry Jones look like an genius.

Plenty of disappointment happening in Philly; primarily among Eagle fans. I was shocked because I just felt that Dawkins would be an Eagle for at least another 2 years or until he retired as an Eagle; whichever happened first.

Sources in Philly suggest that Eagle Management could have easily retained Dawkins for another 2 years or so ...but they purposely did not. That said, they either know something that prevented the new contract In Philly, or they believe Dawkins may have Lost a step. That all will come out in the wash in the 2009 regular season.

They say the Eagles have Lost their Heart, but someone will always step up to fill the void ...FA acquisitions have just begun. We';; see what being millions under the cap will do to compensate for the Dawkins Loss.

Man, I look at those contracts that will NEVER get paid that amount, and have to think... sports agents own this league.

Lito AND Dawk gone.....GOOOOOOD RIDDANCE.
Maybe those moves will work out and maybe not. If the Eagles get lit up through the passing game next season though, the media will bury them for letting Sheppard and Dawkins out of Philly.

Philthy as usual shows no real loyalty to any player outside of McFlab. They have treated Westbrook shamefully and frankly he is more important to the offense. Dawkins deserved better then this.

Cowboys fans were more afraid of Sheppard and Dawkins than Asante. Those 2 guys were a barometer for the outcome. If they played well, we were going to lose. Asante is a good player, but those guys were Cowboys assassins.

Hit the nail right on the head there. It was funny the last couple of years people on this board would trash Lito, but he would always seem to play at a higher level against us.

No, I didn't forget him. Although the way he played against us it would have been easy to. Like the others said, Sheppard and Dawkins were the ones that always gave us trouble. Besides, even if Samuel plays better this season, he can't cover the whole field. After all, he's not Deion Sanders.

Agreed. Dawkins was a great player and a thorn in the Cowboys' side.

Glad he's outta Philly.
