It's the day after, normally after having time to cool off I feel better about games, especially games where we won and maybe didnt play well. That isnt the case today.

That was a royal clunker yesterday against a very bad football team. A bad football team missing a number of its key players. A bad football team that only once this yr had allowed as few as 7pts in a game, and that was vs a pathetic Rams team at home back in week 2. Some people are taking pride in the fact that we held them to two fg's, yet this is a team that ranks at the bottom of the league in scoring offense and near the bottom in virtually every offensive category. They were missing oodles of OL, down to their 3rd and 4th string RB's, missing their best receiving option in Cooley. Missing their best defensive player.

The only real positive from the game is we won. Beyond that, it was pathetic.

1) The box score will show we ran for 153 on 33 rushes, almost all of it by the RB's. That looks great until you also note that the Commanders rank at the bottom of the league in rush defense even with the 100 million dollar DT. He didnt play yesterday.

2) Our passing game was absolutely atrocious yesterday, and most of it was because of how poorly Romo played. I give him credit for shaking off the back injury and playing through it. It might have even been the reason he was so inaccurate. On the last drive of the game he played very well and he has to be given credit for that too. But he has had problems virtually all year with accuracy, and especially throwing passes that sail high. Romo was outplayed badly by Jason Campbell.

3) For those cheerleading the defense, anytime you dont give up a TD you have to be pleased. But the Commanders are an absolutely horrid offensive team. They rank at the bottom of the league in almost every offensive category. When you have to rely on a kicker who had been prefect missing a gimmee to win the game, you shouldnt be that happy. Only twice in 9 games has Campbell thrown for more yards than he did yesterday. He came into the game being sacked 28 times, and we got him only once. He completed something like 13/13 passes on 3rd down.

4) Doug Free played pretty well in hid first start. His worst play was probably the run play where Barber got caught from behind on 3rd down, had he got the guy blocked even a little, Barber easily gets the first down. Otherwise, he was pretty good.

5) Alan Ball was ok too, really no different than the bum who makes 40 million dollars and plays ahead of him. Looked like he got a little more comfortable as the game wore on, but totally blew what looked like a gimmee pick.

6) A few guys who stood out as terrible yesterday IMO were Leonard Davis, Roy Williams, Romo, Newman, Sensabaugh and even Jay Ratliff. For the 2nd straight game Ratliff went up against a truly dreadful OL, and other than one or two plays I hardly noticed him. There might have been others, Folk missing a FG was bad. Barber laying the damn ball on the ground in the redzone was lame and that play might have changed the whole way that game played out. The common theme here though is a bunch of guys who get paid a ton of money (save Sensabaugh and Folk) took turns looking awful.

7) On the other hand, I thought Martellus Bennett looked really good and clearly they have to start getting him involved down the field. Patrick Crayton had another very solid game returning punts and kept working to get open on our only TD. As mentioned above, Free didnt seem to hurt us out there. Spencer was all over the place. Bowen's deflection might have been a season saver. Keith Brooking is playing at a very high level.

8) I am still amazed at how incredibly close they call our DB's for everything. If they were calling it that way on both teams every week, that would be one thing. But they are not. And for the 2nd straight game, officials seemed to totally botch instant replay.

9) We should hammer Oakland, but I'm doubting we will. After that we play at NYG, San Diego at home, at New Orleans, at Washington and home vs Philly. I'm gonna go ahead and say this, but if we play the way we have the last two games in December, we'll be 0-for-the-month, and at best 1-4.

10) We limped out of this game with a bunch of injuries, and Mike Jenkins might be out vs Oakland, which would be a huge loss because he is eonsbetter than Scandrick right now. Gurode and Ware also got dinged up again. Bennett appeared to be ok, but he got absolutely blasted on one pass play. Romo has the back thing too.

Something is wrong with this team. It isnt play calling. It isnt injuries. They just dont seem to get "it". After laying an egg last week, you'd think they'd have come out in front of a great home crowd and really stepped it up against a very bad Washington team. Instead they managed to get shut out for 56+ minutes and look hopeless for most of the game in general. Its concerning, and IMO we're teetering close to wasting another season. This team should be better be playing better than it is right now.

You are right Dbair, but there is a whole host of people on here who will hammer you for it. I've already weighed in on what I believe is wrong in another thread, and gotten hammered for it. (And I don't give a rip)

In my view, until JJ gets out of the way on the football side of things, and gets a real head coach who can hire his own staff, one who isn't coming out of retirement, you will continue to see this kind of thing. Just my 2 cents.

This is one time I felt Garrett caved into the pressure of the media and public regarding run, run and run some more all we did was almost run the clock out on ourselfs once Dallas got back to what they do and who they are we were able to drive the field and put up a score. I want to see Dallas being balanced and using the run as part of the attack but this team is a good passing team and we need to get them off to a quick start using the high precentage throws mixing in the run but also looking for the plays down the field.

``That's the Tony Romo I remember seeing before I got here,'' said Brooking, who played the previous 11 seasons with Atlanta. ``He has that uncanny ability to make that play when it really matters.''

I really like this.

If the team believes that Romo can pull games out in end, that Romo knows how to come from behind and win, the team plays better.

I dont know that anyone can say the defense "gets it" because of what we saw yesterday. Again, it was the Commanders. One of THE worst offensive teams in football, missing several OL, their top two RB's, their top receiving threat and starting a QB who is the model of inconsistency. Said QB completed every 3rd down pass he attempted and there were still too many plays with way too soft of coverage. We did what should have been expected in terms of pts allowed, but it wasnt a dominant performance either. They still outgained us in yards, we had only one sack against a QB who had been sacked 28 times going in, didnt force a turnover until a DL tipped a pass at the end of the game and let a journeyment type RB like Rock Cartwright make several big plays on us. We missed a bunch of tackles (again).

That same Commanders team put up 27 points on Denver and they'd been rushing the ball a lot better. Their lead had rushed 4 times for a total of 5 yards before he got hurt; he was gonna get stuffed all night. They got an element of surprise for Cartwright but he also got stuffed all night, save for the 34 yard rushing play in which they outschemed us and got Ware rushing upfield, vacating his gap. Outside of that, he had 12 carries for 33 yards.

Yeah, we had some breakdowns and gave up some long 3rd down conversions but we mainly stopped them when it mattered. Their kicker missed a FG and our missed one too. 50 yard FGs are not gimmes and our defense made that play also by blitzing the run on 3rd and 2 and stopping them for a 2 yard loss, hence forcing a longer field goal.

Any time you hold a team to less than their season average in scoring, you played good defense. Any time you hold a team to 6 points, and win the game only scoring 7, you played great defense. Do you realize that for the bulk of this game, we played defense knowing we had to keep it a one possession game and couldn't even give up a FG? How hard is it to play like that. The other guys get paid too.

And for you to put Ratliff in the category of those who played terrible despite the fact that we stuffed the run all day, he got double teamed all day, and also got 2 QB pressures just shows you don't really get it. He's a freaking NT.

As bad as I thought we played on offense I will say I was happy with the job Doug Free did out there. He got his 1st start under his belt and did a decent job.

oh no jason campbell outplayed Tony Romo....cancel the season...close down the stadium...move the team to LA.

These two games this week are not about style. Just win baby.

The season starts december 6th. We have to beat the giants and steal one from the chargers and saints to win the division. I think we are going to do just that.

but be alarmed. I think one of the next 4 teams is going to blow us out. I can see us squeaking by ny and getting blown out in New orleans or at home against san diego.

The comment that this team Doesn't get it is so far off its kind of embarrasing that you said it. This team gets it. We have now won two games this year that in the past we lose for sure. We are 3-1 when trailing in the 4th qtr.

This team is fighting and playing hard on all 3 units. They are throwing counterpunches and making sure not to blow the game. Sooner or later we are going to roll up a bunch of points on someone, I am not sure who or when, but I feel it is coming. I hope its NY.

Well first, throw out any stat when it comes to heated rivalries. I stay clear of ever betting on a division rivalry game.

As far as Campbell outplaying Romo, when Romo had to score to win, he did it. Campbell didn't score at all and failed when he had to. I say thats a Romo win. So does 7-6

Bennett had a drop or two, and at least one hold and a movement penalty.
He can do better.

Personally, I'd like to see Romo under center alot more with a fullback in the game. Although it worked yesterday, the 90% running draws out of the shotgun is going to fail. Teams are just going to start run blitzing the middle on every play.

I actually thought the Barber fumble was a game changer. Had we punched it in there, maybe the Skins would have folded. Instead it gave them hope.

Suisham missed a 38 yd fg in a dome, when he had been perfect for the yr. It's a gimmee, if he makes that they win. And he just missed the 50 yarder.

Yep, I totally agree with this. If the offense shoots itself in the foot early, it has a hard time getting on track. Denver and Green Bay both hung around and won by taking advantage of an inept offense letting them stay in the game. Washington just did not have the horses to get it done.

:laugh2:

it's unbelievable Kitna didn't come in yesterday with Romo was as injured as he obviously was. Talk about stupidity.

Right on cue for cupcake/RHJ the gutless duo.

And the homers pointing out how great the opponent is (GB was a pathetic outing nevermind yesterday) making excuses-o-plenty.

At some point you have to start giving the other team credit.

Again, Green Bay has a pretty good defense, they were desperate, playing at home and their season was on the line.

The Commanders have a pretty passing defense and started to get their confidence back.

We are 7-3 and most likely headed to the Playoffs.

I notice in most of the OP, when David says "we" and "this team", he really means, "this offense".

Players play hurt it comes with the job. Aikman played many games when he was injured as well yet I don't recall where that staff was called gutless. Romo felt he could get back out there and did so.

I just never understand why Cowboys fans cannot give the opposition any credit.

I haven't seen Green Bay and Washington play that much this year but:

Green Bay is 3rd in Overall Defense
Green Bay is 4th in Run Defense

Washington is 1st in Passing Defense
Washington is 4th in Overall Defense

If you want to buy into the Cowboys being 5th Overall in Offense, then you have to give our last 2 opponents credit as well.

Those were 2 fairly good defenses and people are out of their mind if they thought the Cowboys were capable of scoring at will on those defenses.

Nailed it. I don't get why people can't see that.

right now.............we just don't have a receiver who can break away from press coverage. Washington's DB's coverd us like a blanket and hasseled our receivers starting at the LOS.

I didn't get a chance to see or follow the game, so I have no idea what happened yesterday. All I see is two things; 1) we won 2) we only scored 7 points.

I don't know whether to be pissed off or happy....

of course players play hurt... especially WHEN THERE ARE NO VIABLE OPTIONS.

when they are INEFFECTIVE and playing poorly as a direct result of the injury is when coaches need to grow a pair.

Pulling Romo in for examination/treatment would have been better than what transpired. It's not like he coudn't come back in later on.

It was gutless, "don't be second guessed" coaching move. as stupid as letting a guy play with a concussion (see numerous examples this year)

Romo felt good enough to go back out there and Dallas will go with their best players when they can. if Romo was that hurt he would have not gone back in. They checked him on the sidelines like they would any other player and once they felt he was good enough to go back in he did. If that is what you call gutless fine

Romo didn't seem to be any more inconsistent than in a lot of games. Sure he is capable of playing better, and has played better, but he is capable of playing just as he did even when healthy, and he has done that as well.

who cares what a PLAYER says or thinks? he was ineffective AND CLEARLY hurt. like the pitcher getting hammered wanting to pitch to one more guy. ROTF.

coaches with a clue take into account their team, roster & 16 game season.

Because you think they should have? What the hell do you know about the situations? Where you down there? What did the trainers on the sideline says? what was Romo saying about being ready to go? Yes coaches listen to players on how that player feels because he is the only one who really knows if he can go or not. But you sit at home watching the TV and talk about gutless? You don't know what you are talking about.

I don't understand why when we don't play well everyone always says we 'aren't playing hard' or 'don't get it'. The team was playing hard. We were trying. We 'get it', we need to win.

The QB was off, the RCVRs weren't open and the skins were playing hard. We didn't execute.

It isn't about 'getting it'. Its about playing better.

Clearly Romo was off, but also just as clearly people weren't open and their scheme had us confused. The offensive failure was a case of the QB, WRs and coaches not planning and executing well. It wasn't about 'getting it'.
