Day After Thoughts

The fact of the matter is we just came very close to beating the world champs, who are one of the best teams in the NFC this year, and had outscored their last 3 opponents on the road like 75-6 going into the game, with out backup QB. Teams don't win a lot of games when their pro bowl top 10 QB is not on the field.

If Romo plays, we win that game easily.

Wow I feel that I should add you to my buddy list, there are so few posters here worth paying attention to it's nice to find sanity here and there.
People from other parts of the net read the idiotic statements posted here by fickle / bandwagon fans who are disillusioned by a bad season and it's little wonder Cowboy fans can appear to have no faith in 'their' team.

As for your post, I absolutely agree with everything except 2 parts.
1.) I'm not as down on MBIII as most but I DO believe he is leaving some yardage out there- maybe not up the middle but out wide he has never been fast and he just has to get north and south more. I personally would like to see Dallas pick up a true bruiser of a back to compliment Felix, something in the 250+ range to punish defenders.

2.) Brooking- Like the guy, love the fire (but not the pep rally) and hopefully Lee is learning all he can from him. Brooking ALWAYS gives effort but time is just catching up with the guy. Let's face it, Dallas has needed to get young at ILB for years. Brooking will likely retire in the next year or two anyway.

The attitude going in that we couldn't win the game is sickening. I guarantee you Garrett didn't think that way and that's the reason he has a chance to be a very successful HC.

That's why the loss hurts so bad. It wouldn't have been an upset if we had won. We have weaknesses but so do the Ssaints and despite the records if we play up to our ability, even without Romo, we can win. We beat this team last year in their home stadium when they were undefeated and we should have beat them yesterday.

For everyone that enjoys moral victories I suppose everything is sunshine today. But for those with competitive fire and juice flowing through their veins they feel SICK today. Thankfully Garrett seems to be turning that loser mindset around. The mindset that we played hard and didn't quit but oh well we didn't expect to win.

could not said it better. didnt this team make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs last year and beat the Saints in there home last year? And this year because they did not quit its supposed to be something we cheer? Are you kidding me?

1) In regards to Garrett, I see post after post complaining about play calling and in game decisions. In regards to the 4th and less than 1 or accepting the holding call and making it 3rd and 10 1/2, thats an easy call where the ball was and considering who the other coach was. We had shown absolutely no ability to stuff any of their run plays for no gain, and even less ability to stop the pass. Anybody who really thinks Sean Payton, one of the most aggressive coaches in the NFL was gonna punt in that situation is out of their freaking head. As for play calling, I guess the 4th and 1 call where they pitched to Barber can be questioned, but Colombo killed that play more than Barber did. What other play calls can really be complained about? Oh thats right, the one's that didnt work. They didnt work because they had to be BAD calls right? The last drive attempted screen was a BAD call right? Did anyone see how well Bryant was set up? If Kitna lobs that ball high enough, Bryant would have ran for a ton. But no, its a bad call. We scored 27 pts and ran up almost 460 yds against a top-5 defense, the most they had yielded this year. Care to guess what those dominating Steelers did against them 3 weeks ago? 10 pts, under 280 yds and Roesthlisberger's QB rating was 66.8. The Steelers didnt score a TD until the 4th qtr of that game. The fact is he called a pretty damn good game, and after those first 3 drives we really had our way with their defense.

an excellent, excellent point. And one that completely escaped the clueless Joe Buck during the game.

Its not an easy call. Its not an obviously bad call, but its not an easy one to make. We give up a lot of 3rd and 10 plus conversions.

We werent 1-7 last yr and coming off numerous embarrassing defeats either.

Its not just that they didnt "quit" its that despite playing with a deck stacked against them, they are playing hard and playing good football.

Its funny how we see thread after thread and post after post from all sorts of people who say this guy sux, that guys washed up, this guy is killing the offense or defense etc etc, but then those same people turn around and act like they are surprised we arnt better and came up short yesterday.

Its obvious this team has some holes, most notable at OL and both safety spots. We're also playing with our backup QB.

Has that pitch to MB worked at all this year? Even if 1 out of 10 does work, that is no reason to keep trying what consistently DOES NOT WORK.

4) For Roy Williams, all the good he did yesterday (and really for most of this season) was wiped in alot of people eyes because of that fumble. It sux, it was a bad way to end the game and he deserves some criticism. But it was more the result of a GREAT play by their DB than a really bad one by RW. He wasnt carrying it loosely, the guy used every ounce of strength he had to rip it away. But he made several other huge plays in this game in the run and pass game. e plays extremely hard. After dropping too many balls last yr, he's had maybe one drop all this yr that I remember. Perhaps two. I know I'm in the minority, but at a reduced salary cap figure I'd love to have this guy back next year.

I agree. To have him as a 3rd receiver? I'd take him. I'd take him as my #2. He does have some big play ability. If he'll take a paycut it would be good for both sides. You just feel bad for Roy because all offseason he did everything right. Said the right things. He finally was getting it. And I doubt the Cowboys determine whether they bring him back or not after yesterdays fumble. But he was having a solid season. He's had the least drops of anyone in our receiving core. Especially Miles who I believe had another drop yesterday.

Columbo is the reason why the pitch doesn't work. Not Barber. But that's been the story of this running game all season.

How many teams have lost their probowl QB and played as well as they did the year before?

While it was a good play by Jenkins to strip Roy, it is an equally, if not more-so bad play by Roy for not securing the ball with two hands.

Seriously? You're going to try to split two defenders to the left and right of you, and you're not going to put both hands around the rock given the situation?

To me, that is just stupid.

When we went for it on 4th and 1 at the 20, I was a little upset. I felt we should have kicked the FG. Once we ran the play with Barber, I was even more upset that we didn't kick the FG. I wish Felix or Choice would have gotten the call on that 4th down, they can get to the edge faster and easier than Barber.

I was ok with the FG on 4th and 1 at the 6. We were down 17-0 and we simply needed to get on the board to break the ice.

I am upset that the fumble tainted Roy's performance yesterday. It was unfortunate, because if he holds onto that ball, we most likely win the game.

I was disappointed with Kitna. He seemed to rush several of his passes, and was quite a bit off. He seemed to have the happy feet in the pocket that a shell shocked rookie tends to have. He was off in a bad way yesterday.

Beuhler was very good yesterday. I thought that 59 yder was gonna be good, but it curved out at the last moment. Very unfortunate, and black mark on an otherwise great game for him.

Our secondary was not very good yesterday. We gave up too many passes, especially deep. We dropped 2-4 interceptions. Sure we got an INT by Sensabaugh, but aside from that it was a pitiful performance indeed.

Oh Julius, where was this running style when you were a Cowboy. Aside from the Seattle games, he rain like a female dog.....often tackling himself a blade of grass. I guess he had some animosity with us and so he actually ran with purpose and passion yesterday.

I am upset with the loss, because like the Skins, Titans, Bears, and Vikings games, we simply let it get away. We had this game one and we couldn't close it out. But that is the difference between winning teams and losing teams. Winning teams are clutch when it matters, pulling wins out of the dark crevasse below their back.

I will say this, over the past 3 weeks, the character of this team has impressed me. The effort of this team has impressed me.

We should have won the game. We found yet another way to lose. Only the epic fail of Wade Phillips makes yesterday acceptable.

This is an excellent post!

I'd like to add that I too believe that Jason Garrett will be a good coach for years to come IF....

he stops calling the plays for the offense.

There are so many issues to fix in this team. For one thing the 2 minute drill at the end of the game was awful. We should have called something like a screen or even a draw if he wanted a field goal. Yet Garrett played to what the defense was giving us.....dump off passes didn't help us at that time and I wish that we could have gone for a TD instead.

Secondly, I'm beginning to think that Garrett is stubborn. He needs to basically bench Barber. Barber is done here in Dallas. He just doesn't have it anymore. Yet Garrett keeps putting him back in and expecting miracles. Our strength is in our receivers not Barber running the ball. And when we run Barber we lessen our chances with the big play.

Sure they took away the deep ball by playing a 2 deep zone but this was the game that we didn't have anything to lose. Thus it would have been ideal to test out Dez if he can beat a double team deep and I think he can.

I enjoyed this game very much. Yes RW's fumble was a shocker. But I trust that Garrett can still make the necessary improvements this year to still be competitive with any team out there. I just think he needs to lose his OC position and let someone else call it.

Well, the Patriots lost arguably the best quarterback in the game in their season opener, and still went 11-5.

They didn't do as well as they year before, but 16-0 is kind of a tough thing to do.

He did call a screen and Miles dropped the dam ball :banghead:

We didn't find a way to lose. The saints beat us. Malcolm Jenkins strip of that ball was a terrific play on the ball. The playcall and Meachem running by Newman was a great play. I know it's standard fare to always be so arrogant as to think the only way the Cowboys can lose is if they do it to themselves, but sometimes the other team just beats you, and that's what happened.

I dont think we "found a way to lose" at all.

Their guy made a play when they absolutely had to have it on defense. Their all pro QB led a drive for a TD when they absolutely had to have it.

They are a better team than us this year. if you cant see that or dont want to acknowledge it, fine. But your blind.

.

Dont get this at all. We've played our 3 best offensive games of the year the last 3 weeks, with a 38yr old backup QB and a OL on its last legs.

Nobody played better against the Saints defense this yr than we did yesterday.

I disagree.

I think we found a way to lose. Yes it was a good play, but how/why would Roy not put two arms around the ball to protect it?

Just stupid.
