we got to see the game...got Verne Lundquist and Warren Moon's call of the game...love Lundquist, but man he botched a bunch of names..."Tyus Thompson"- he must have said that half a dozen times....didnt seem right though to have Lundquist calling the game FOR Seattle...
on to the game:
1) loved Romo's game...after that disaster first series you couldnt ask for much more...made one bad throw/decision in my opinion otherwise played well...would have liked to see some deeper downfield throws, but didnt look like that was in the game plan...
2) OL was so-so IMO...Romo dodged a few possible sacks to bail out the OL so the no sacks allowed is misleading...run blocking was poor at best as none of the RB's had much room to run, I think we ended up averaging 3.1 yds per carry for the game...that stinks...
3) run defense was outstanding...pass rush was definitely better than what we've had in recent years...even the 2nd team defense fared well when the Seahawks left their first team OL in...Ellis, Glymph (2 sacks for him, although one was when he was unblocked), Singleton (met at QB just ahead of Burnett from other side), Pepper Johnson (one of the defensive plays of night IMO) and Ayodele (I think he got credit for a sack on a QB scramble) got sacks...no picks, but Glenn almost nabbed one and Ayodele should have had one that might have been a TD had he held on
4) only negative on D IMO was a couple of way too soft zone coverages that gave up 20+ yd completions to guys wide open in the secondary...one was on 3rd and 23 and was awful (3 man line, 8 drop and still the guy was wide open 20 yds downfield)
5) if Crayton is ok then I really dont see the need for additional WR help...Hurd and Crayton were outstanding, Rector was good too
6) on the rookies, none really stood out the way we'd have hoped but they were ok...I was pretty impressed with McQuistan who got alot of time at LT...Fasano dropped a ball and got absolutely blew up on a short yardage run play...Hatcher showed potential...Carpenter seemed to be very fluid and get good drops but didnt do much to stand out...Green was ok on returns, nothing more....Watkins made a couple of not so good plays and one good tackle on special teams...Stanley didnt stand out but didnt do anything bad that I saw either
7) too many penalties, though we definitely got hosed on a couple of them IMO
8) Suisham= weakest leg in team history...I saw him warming up last yr when I was at the Cardinal game and mentioned to the other fans how weak his leg looked in warm ups, and last night he needed a fluke bounce to clear a 30 yd fg
overall this has to be the best preseason opener we've played since Parcells got here IMO...we look like a deep team and barring a run of really bad injuries to a few of the key guys, we should be in good shape
