DB Interceptions

I think it starts with tackling, batting down passes and jamming routes.

If you can't stop the short passes then teams are going to continue to throw them. And if teams can continue to throw the short passes, you're not likely to get many picks. That's why the Patriots can avoid interceptions. The passes are short and defenses can't stop them.

So you first need to get the DB's to tackle the ballcarrier immediately. Throw a WR screen and if you're getting 1 or 2 yards, they're not likely to throw that WR screen anymore since it doesn't work and if somebody diagnoses it correctly they can lead to a pick 6.

One of the things that not enough D-Linemen do is get their hands up to bat passes. I think Dallas has been one of the worst at batting down passes over the years. This is another measure to stop the short pass. And of course, you have to jam those short routes.

From there, you can then worry about pressure and more important, get the QB moving in a direction where they don't throw the ball accurately. It would also be nice if we had better safeties. I like Wilcox, but he tends to take the wrong angle too often and in zone coverages, the safeties often serve as a 'backstop' where if the ball gets past the corner and the receiver, the safety should be there to pick it up. I think that's Wilcox's biggest weakness. I like him in man-to-man and the ferocity he brings, but he's never there to pick up those passes that get past the receiver. And Church is a liability in coverage.

Today was a great day of NFL football. Did you notice the games seem to have a DB pick 6 in several games. Guys you never heard of. That is something we just don't see enough of watching the Cowboys. It seem Lee is the only guy that can get this done. He doesn't get pick 6, but at least int. Are the DBs told not to be aggressive?

Dallas needs more turnovers. Hope that Hardy causes QB's to cough up the ball and throw short !!!

In the games that I watched I noticed an abundance of potential INTs that were dropped. My GF got a good laugh when I said that DBs were originally WRs that couldn't catch.

Stupid question, but do the DB's every just practice catching the ball like WR's?

They do practice it, but I don't know to what extent. It would be nice to hear that the DBs are catching 1000 balls on the jugs machine but even if they were, the media would never get around to reporting something that was informative but not controversial

Lol at "playmaker". Such an overused garbage buzz word.

I tend to agree.
However, some of the guys on defense certainly have to start making plays, or you know, just making tackles and catching the ball when it's thrown at their hands.

I really don't think our DB's are coached to look for the ball. I see a lot of Dave Campo's "play the receiver, not the ball" out there. When you're not looking for it, you're not going to catch it most of the time.

If the pass rush against the Patriots was legitimate, we will start seeing more turnovers.

It's because the ball hits our guys right in the numbers.

That's not fair............

I want to see us tackle better, that is for sure.

Against the Giants, I don't care if we get turnovers...just none for the Cowboys.

I think Dallas controls New York's running game and gets some serious pressure on Eli now.
