IRVING, Texas – Once again, Charles Haley’s been left out of the latest Hall of Fame class.

This marked the fifth year Haley, who’s the only player in NFL history with five Super Bowl rings, was a Hall of Fame finalist without getting in. Michael Strahan, Andre Reed, Walter Jones, Derrick Brooks, Aeneas Williams, Claude Humphrey and Ray Guy all were named into the Class of 2014.

Haley ranks 12th in Cowboys history with 34 sacks and had 100.5 for his career. He would have been the 13th former Cowboys player who accrued at least five years with the team to be named to the Hall of Fame.

Haley, who was the NFC Defensive Player of the Year twice in his career, joined the Cowboys in 1992 in a trade from San Francisco. Many believe Haley was the difference-maker on defense to put the team over the hump. Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin were already in place and leading a high-octane offense, but it was Haley’s presence that added a needed piece.

Yea, I think you are right about the antics may have turned off a lot of the voters. I remember one story about Haley when he was in SF and he got into an argument with a fellow teammate over something. So he went out into the parking lot and stood on top of the hood and urinated on the windshield of the car..............LOL

Does anyone know of a stat that breaks down sacks by what down they come on? Seemed like he had a knack for getting them at the right time and killing the drive. Probably just me remembering things the way I want to.

Cobb was perhaps the greatest player ever. He was also probably one of the biggest jerks ever. And yes he was a racist amongst other things. To put it nicely he wasn't well liked.

Someone needs to do an interview that's makes him look a little humble and a nice guy. I don't know what his problems are.

I read some stuff last year about him being diagnosed bi polar and getting treatment and his wife was basically saying he knew his past was keeping him out. The 5 rings would seem to make it a no brainer. It's not a Cowboys bias. It's a decency bias. Charles Haley was a very indecent player and very obnoxious to the media - and he's paying for it. He'll eventually get in, but he has to pay for his boorish behavior.

Ty Cobb was inducted in 1936. Racism was still a badge of honor then. So was being a misogynist.

Ray Guy should have been inducted long time ago. He's one of the greatest punters in the history of the game. There are greater DEs than Haley.

Everyone has an agenda. Everyone has biases. And when it comes to choosing one player over another, if everything is equal on the field, off-the-field conduct will be considered.

But Haley will get in. He'll just have to wait a little longer.
