Considering WR Roy's Future Impact

The off-season isn't three weeks old, and already a debate seems to be brewing about whether the Cowboys' front office should strongly consider releasing wide receiver Terrell Owens.
The central argument, obviously, is whether the Cowboys believe Owens is enough of a distraction to warrant releasing him with three years left on his lucrative contract (he's also due a $3.1 million roster bonus in June). His age (36 in December) is a consideration, but the Cowboys knew that when they gave him an extension last summer. And his numbers this year (69 catches, 1,052 yards, 10 touchdowns) prove he's still a high-level player, even if his skills naturally will decline.
Roy Williams would seem to be another factor here. He made minimal impact in 10 games this season, but the Cowboys traded a first- and third-round pick, and signed him to a $45 million extension, as Owens' clear heir apparent.
Do the Cowboys believe Williams can return to top-receiver status with a full off-season in the system and a healthy foot? It's hard to believe Williams, a terrific receiver in Detroit, lost his game he came home to Texas.
Plenty to chew on.
