Cowboys Looking To Fill Roster Spot

After releasing running back Chauncey Washington on Monday – with hopes of retaining him to the practice squad – the Cowboys had an open roster spot, intending to bring back Marvin White, who was cut Saturday.

But White didn’t clear waivers, getting claimed by the Lions, therefore leaving the Cowboys now scrambling to find some help at safety. With Gerald Sensabaugh (broken thumb) out for this week and maybe even longer, the Cowboys need some depth at safety behind starters Ken Hamlin and now Pat Watkins.

However, the Cowboys appear to be doing some shuffling. The club has brought in fourth-year cornerback Cletis Gordon for a physical. If he passes, Gordon would likely join the Cowboys today. That would likely mean that Alan Ball would slide over to safety, a position he played during training camp.

Gordon has played three seasons with the Chargers, including 2006 when Wade Phillips was defensive coordinator. He was cut by San Diego in training camp this season.

But that may not be the only move the Cowboys make today. Not only are they hoping Washington can clear waivers and return to the practice squad, there could be some other things in the mix as well. Stay tuned.

We are releasing jerry.

Putting in a smaller videoboard at the stadium.

Gordon Keith is being brought in to run the organization, through his fake jerry persona.

or were trading the next 7 1's for braylon edwards.

Lions claim cornerback Cletis Gordon
By Tom Kowalski
September 02, 2009, 6:36PM
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions are at it again, working the waiver wire.

The Lions claimed Texans cornerback Cletis Gordon off waivers Wednesday and, like QB Kevin O'Connell who was claimed Tuesday, the Lions will take a long long at Gordon before they have to make a decision on their 53-man roster. The final cuts have to be completed by Saturday.

The Lions released veteran Keith Smith earlier in the day, knowing they'd be awarded Gordon (the Lions always get first crack at the waiver wire by virtue of their 0-16 record).

Gordon played for three years with the Chargers and started one game last season before joining the Texans in camp this year.

I would think that we would activate Mickens and this guy would go on the PS. Is four years in the league the cutoff for the PS or is it 3?

Thanks. Looked it up. Here are the rules if anyone is interested.

Practice Squad Eligibility
According to league policy, only certain types of players are allowed to sign to the practice squad. Players cannot have played more than nine regular season games or been on the active roster for an entire year, nor can players be allowed to spend more than two seasons on the same team's squad unless that team's active roster never dips below 53 players
