That 'assessment' leaves a bit to be desired in my book.

It's all about the writer's opinion of what's good and what's not.

Too subjective for me.

I think you might be on to something there, stash... I just started another thread about Duke, and the numbers I looked at strongly suggested the Bills' offensive line played noticeably better when he was inserted into the starting lineup...

There might have been other factors that I'm unaware of in play, but the Bills gave up over 3 sacks a game before he became a starter, an even 2 a game after... they averaged 3.7 yards per carry in the games he didn't start, 4.4 in the games he did...

I'll be shocked if this guy is any good.

Say it, Mickey ....

Yeah, it couldn't just be that he wasn't a good fit for the Packers' scheme... or maybe that the Pack was solid at his position...

Or a combination of the two...

He better be a quick learner to supplant Proctor by final cut down.

Reading Packer boards, it seems like he started slow this season, came on a bit later, but was caught in a numbers game and then released when the Packers solidified their line, giving him a chance to catch on with another team. Besides the Cowboys, CLE and OAK were supposedly in the running.

That last confuses me, idgit... would he have been on the waiver wire, meaning teams could claim him in the order of their record?? Cleveland and Oakland had worse records, so they would have had first claim to him...

I read a post late in this thread that suggested to me that the Pack wants ultra-mobile linemen, and Preston is more of a mauler... his combine numbers weren't particularly impressive (5.44 second 40, his 10 and 20 yard splits weren't very good either, and he was 10-15 pounds lighter back then)...

He seems to be more suited to a power blocking scheme, and that's not the Packers' profile for linemen...

He must have cleared, and then interested teams lined up. Here's the article I was referencing. No idea how reputable the source is:

Seriously.

And McQ can't play LT, G, or RT, where's his 'versatility'?

Free backs up LT
Preston backs up C (and guard if need be)
Holland backs up both guard spots
McQ gets replaced.

Done and done.

I have no clue. McQuistan can't play C or RG either

If he's a 4 year vet he doesn't get put on Waivers, he becomes a free agent as soon as he's released.

Ah, right. That makes more sense. I'm glad we made this signing. Now, I can concentrate on worrying about OLB.

The only position McQuistain seems to be good at is LEFT-OUT

In my head, your finger lingered for some time over the 'submit reply' button after writing this post before you accidentally pushed it. Also, you're drunk.

I think Preston replaces Proctor.

Then someone drafted in April replaces Preston.

Does this mean he's signed to the 77 player squad and can still get cut when trim down's come along, or has he been signed to the 53 man squad and will be with us all year?

Offensive Line Review: Duke Preston

Dynamics_tiny by Ron From NM on Mar 9, 2009 12:30 PM EDT in Events Comment 42 comments

Buffalo probably has the worst OL situation in the NFL. They're specifically using the no huddle just to try to hide their OL, and they still almost got Edwards killed in just a quarter of work the other night. When they let you walk after getting an in depth look at you for 4 years, you must have reached a new tier of suck. Combined with the fact that he couldn't make Green Bay's first round of cuts (and Green Bay is in no position to cut quality offensive lineman either, looking to completely rehaul a good portion of their OL from last year). Well....

The best you can say for him is he's started in the league ... but he was a relatively high draft pick and Buffalo really didn't have any other options, so I don't know how much that truly says about him. I believe Cha'Ron Dorsey started for us at one time. But he seems to be big and fat for his position, so I could see why he might be a Houck favorite. Let's hope it turns out better than Houck's last big, fat reclaimation project Holland.

It's an insult to call Kosier serviceable.

He is a good starting guard in this league. For whatever reason, some of you guys have been looking to replace him since we got him. I guess because he isn't some giant Larry Allen clone, he's not good enough for you guys. But it's a shame how much he is under-rated. He is a good starter... not a mere serviceable one.

Agreed. A year ago, Kosier was the whipping boy for the OL like Proctor is now and some people were in favor of Holland's acquisition and even posted statistics (which for OL is hilarious) suggesting he was at least his equal. Then he gets hurt and the OL falls apart. Based off the fact there was no competition, we know can surmise that simply Kosier is better and drastically undervalued.

I also don't necessarily agree that Preston means no more Proctor, as much as I'd love the thought. It is probably more of a reaction to the fact Holland's switch to center hasn't worked out. They probably are looking seriously at getting that center/guard backup who could save them a roster spot. Preston probably still has to prove he's better providing that than Proctor. Remember, just a few short months ago, Phillips was talking about how Proctor graded out well, despite public consensus on him. Again, we just don't know and probably should try to stop guessing about the linemen.

How about that videoboard thing?

I don't think we discussed that nearly enough.
