I saw him in their last preseason game. He is real heavy in the lower body so he should be pretty good anchoring imo. Played well in the game although it was all in the second half.MichaelWinicki;2906081 said:Actually I don't think Preston fits the mold of the "big and fat" lineman and that's part of his problem. He has an athlete's build, not a "Holland build" and he may not anchor as well as someone shorter and stouter.
Remember, Preston is 6'5". That's very tall for a center. There are DT's & NT's out there that are barely 6' tall, with many in the 6'2 & 6'3" range. I think Preston plays a little stiff and is more top-heavy so he is more apt to lose the leverage battle if he doesn't bend far enough.
At this point, he's a body. An improvement over Proctor, but not much more than that.

Green Bay actually has a lot OL that I would think the Cowboys would like to have.InmanRoshi;2905972 said:Buffalo probably has the worst OL situation in the NFL. They're specifically using the no huddle just to try to hide their OL, and they still almost got Edwards killed in just a quarter of work the other night. When they let you walk after getting an in depth look at you for 4 years, you must have reached a new tier of suck. Combined with the fact that he couldn't make Green Bay's first round of cuts (and Green Bay is in no position to cut quality offensive lineman either, looking to completely rehaul a good portion of their OL from last year). Well....
The best you can say for him is he's started in the league ... but he was a relatively high draft pick and Buffalo really didn't have any other options, so I don't know how much that truly says about him. I believe Cha'Ron Dorsey started for us at one time. But he seems to be big and fat for his position, so I could see why he might be a Houck favorite. Let's hope it turns out better than Houck's last big, fat reclaimation project Holland.

Jason Spitz starting center and can also play guard
Josh Sitton a quality 2nd year guard
Scott Wells their former starting center
Daryn Colledge plays tackle and guard, the second round pick that the Cowboys wanted a couple years ago in the draft.
Allen Barbre another good young g/t
TJ Lang a rookie OL that I wish the Cowboys would have drafted.
Evan Dietrich-Smith a rookie g/c find that they are really high on.
They also have rookie Jamon Meredith, but I believe the Cowboys did not like him because he was considered a locker room lawyer. Bad influence.
Alexander;2906036 said:Agreed. A year ago, Kosier was the whipping boy for the OL like Proctor is now and some people were in favor of Holland's acquisition and even posted statistics (which for OL is hilarious) suggesting he was at least his equal. Then he gets hurt and the OL falls apart. Based off the fact there was no competition, we know can surmise that simply Kosier is better and drastically undervalued.
I also don't necessarily agree that Preston means no more Proctor, as much as I'd love the thought. It is probably more of a reaction to the fact Holland's switch to center hasn't worked out. They probably are looking seriously at getting that center/guard backup who could save them a roster spot. Preston probably still has to prove he's better providing that than Proctor. Remember, just a few short months ago, Phillips was talking about how Proctor graded out well, despite public consensus on him. Again, we just don't know and probably should try to stop guessing about the linemen.
He's really a C/G, but he has a little experience at RT. Kyle Kosier can play G and RT also. I've always thought Kosier would be great at center if he was given time to learn the position. He already helps Gurode with calls.MichaelWinicki;2906109 said:I was surprised to see him listed on GB's depth roster as a C/T.
How often do you see that combo?
Good question. He did sign the tender, which I think is a bit higher than the million or so I think Preston is slated to receive.Idgit;2906169 said:What's the cap impact of Proctor making the game-day roster? Doesn't he get a significant payday if he's there?
But now the details of his contract were disclosed and he received a 2 year, $2 million contract, with no guaranteed money. He'll get a roster bonus of $150,000 at some point. If he comes in during mini-camps and is awful, he's gone with no salary cap cost. Even if he's cut at the end of training camp, at worst the Packers are out $150,000 with the same amount as a cap charge in 2009.
Cowboys signed restricted free agent OL Cory Procter to a one-year, $1.545 million contract.

Wonder where we get another OLB now. I'd think we'd sign one even if only temporarily.
