DC.COM BLOG: Jumped The Gun On Crayton

Sometimes, it’s better to go straight to the source. That’s what I wished I had done in the first place, before writing an opinion-based blog on what appeared to be verbal shots coming from Patrick Crayton out in San Diego, back here to Dallas and directly to coach Wade Phillips.

The report said that Crayton called Phillips “too soft” in his coaching style.

“I never said the word ‘soft’ . . . not once,” Crayton said Thursday night. “I’ve never said one negative thing about any of my former teammates. I have too much respect for Wade, and all of them and I would never say anything like that. I’m telling you, I was misquoted if anyone says I called someone soft.”

Someone call dcfanatic and ask for a retraction. :laugh2: Won't get it but one could ask, right? :D

Won't get it.

I provided the audio. I guess you can't hear.

And Eatman is the idiot here.

NO ONE EVER REPORTED THAT CRAYTON USED THE TERM 'SOFT'.

Eatman already apologized.

Explain why I would write a retraction when I never used the term 'Soft'.

And I provided the audio in the first place. Another guy who can't hear or didn't bother to listen to it yet loves to pop off.

This place is full of misinformed people who never leave this place to research anything and base their stupidity off of what other posters say.

Bunch of gossipping old ladies.

Actually, I saw a couple articles with the headlines suggesting Crayton calling Wade soft, but it's not a big deal.

Crayton clarified his comments and that should be the end of it.

Get 'em, DC.

It's just ridiculous.

Eatman reads a headline and goes off. The guy doesn't read the articles or listen to the audio which I posted two days ago.

He starts ranting that Crayton was coming after Wade.

Then he says Crayton used the term 'Soft' to describe Wade. That never happened. But because he did a poor job at getting all the facts he talks to Crayton and then writes that Crayton denies using the term.

What a joke. The only one that ever said he used the term was Eatman.

:bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

Now Eatman says going to the source is the best policy. No, finding out the real story is the best policy Nick.

The dumbest part of all of this is that actual audio is there. Just listen to it.

And he guy gets paid to do what he does.

His apology isn't even directed at the right issue. He should be apologizing for not doing his job, not for jumping the gun on Crayton.

And then we have the people here who of course have half the story too. They jump right up to take a shot at me. Where did I even use the term 'Soft'. Doesn't exist. Tim MacMahon used the term in his headline. And then provided the transcription of the actual interview for people to read.

Like I said. Bunch of misinformed old ladies who love to pop off on something and yet have not even looked into the issue whatsoever.

Pathetic. All the info is out there if people would take five minutes to read or listen then they could learn a thing or two.

Did anyone quote Crayton saying the word 'Soft'.

No.

But Eatman ran to Crayton and told him they did.

Actually, it should never have been reported in the first place, since it didn't happen.

And it is a big deal, because this is how they go about ginning up stories and riling up a fan base that's as distractible as a bunch of golden retrievers looking at a tennis ball.

I specifically said the headlines for them had "soft" in them.

Both DMN and ESPN ran the story, and both had headlines with "soft" in them. 90% of headlines are written by editors, so blame it on the editors as to why the word "soft" was attributed to Crayton.

It's not even about Eatman, IMO, because he was the last to chime in. However, he did the best job by simply getting additional comments from Crayton instead of running w/the snippets from the audio.

I only meant it wasn't a big deal to me since Crayton came out and clarified his comments in another blog that Eatman wrote.

And truthfully, is it really a big deal for Crayton to suggest tht Wade has nothing to do with the offense? That's not new information.

I now know why the other thread is all screwed up.

Did you listen to the audio?

What didn't happen?

The report was that Crayton said Wade has nothing to do with the offense and that he failed to get on the younger players. That's exactly what Crayton says in the audio.

That's a story whether you want it to be or not.

Wow. So in your opinion Eatman telling Crayton that other reporters are saying that he used the term 'Soft' to describe Wade is him doing the best job?

That's Eatman telling a lie. A lie based on not doing enough fact finding and listening to the audio in the first place to see if he did actually use the term.

Well other reports did infer that Crayton said Wade was soft. That's the truth of the matter. The headlines have been toned down, but they originally came out with the "Crayton says, Wade is soft" Maybe you didn't see them, but I did. it was all over the 'net.

Eatman and DC.COM were the last to even chime in on the Crayton interview and did so off half-information. So Eatman didn't lie, he just didn't have all the info.

Eatman did the right thing in apologizing for not having listened to the audio, but going half-cocked anyway. He gets small kudos for apologizing simply because many in the media don't.

And he did what the other reporters didn't do, followed up with Crayton about the interview. Nobody else in the Dallas media even thought to get Crayton to clarify his remarks.

Incredibly sloppy "reporting" by the so called professionals. And they have the nerve to look down on bloggers.

Heh, no kidding. Spagnola is the ringmaster for the anti-blogger crowd, but it seems like I've heard several of his cronies (mainly talking about the Lunchbreak/Talkin' Cowboys crews) make less than kind remarks about "fan" bloggers, as well.

By the way DCFan, I listen to those two podcasts five days a week (I'm on the road a lot so I have the time), and your show is a breath of fresh air after getting so much "company line" talk all week. I know you don't get a whole lot of love here, but I'll give my props...for whatever that's worth.
