I think Brandon Williams has exciting potential as a situational edge rusher, but I think Jason Williams is the '09 'backer we should be hedging our hopes on. I think best case scenerio is we get 1 1/2 more years out of Brooking and start subbing JWill in starting at mid-season '11. If we don't think JWill is the answer at WILB I would'nt be surprised to see us address LB yet again in the '10 draft, which I would rather we not do.
The problem is if we can't get a full year at the same level out of Brooking - our current best options are Carp and J Williams.
I think to be fair to J Williams, you got to give the guy a full 2 maybe 3 years to get used to the position. We all knew he was a project coming from a relatively small school, but with a lot of athleticism. On top of that, he's changing positions from college to the pros.
As for Hodge, I'm just hoping his knee condition isn't degenerative to the extent he can't be counted on.
I actually wouldn't mind at all if we come out of this draft with a true ILB prospect who could possibly contribute sooner rather than later - IF necessary.
