For Bryan McCann, the worst ramifications of his public intoxication arrest over the weekend are probably behind him, specifically the bad publicity that prompted him to issue a denial on Sunday.

The charge is a Class C misdemeanor, which carries a maximum fine of only $500. Even in a work stoppage, McCann should be able to afford the ticket if found guilty.

He says he's innocent. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

PI's are at a total discretion of the officer, who is more than likely a college dropout with the intellect of a droopy eyed armless child. I'll go with McCann on this one.

I don't want to blast the cop for doing his job. Plus, I don't know how loud and obnoxious McCann was to get his attention. Or whatever else he did.

But this is a minor deal. I was out, drunk having a good time at that age myself. What separates me from him is that a cop wasn't around at the time to catch me.

public intoxication? seriously?

ok, i do not drink alcholic beverages. I do not like the taste nor do I care to put that stuff in my body.

however, i see people drinking in public all the time. I see people getting drunk in public all time. I almost never see anyone getting a ticket for it.

I mean if you are being rowdy or disruptive, or even urinating in public, then I can see a ticket. But if McCann was simply a little intoxicated and not bothering anyone, there should not be an issue.

I do not know all the details, so I will reserve judgement at this time. At any rate, one other bit of negative pub for the players to deal with.

PI is a load of crap. I have had police stop me at 12:00am leaving a cafe and we were just walking hanging out. They asked how much we had to drink and my friend asked what was the reasoning they were questioning us and he had him arrested for disorderly conduct. That was a weird situation.

Basically that's how you get the ticket.

You're not going to get the ticket if you're minding your own business.

He did something to draw attention to himself.

And if he wasn't drunk, he's got to be a complete fool to get hauled off on such chargers.

Yeah I walk out of bars all the time and there are police officers standing at the door watching everyone, they don't bother people unless you start acting stupid.

From my experience, and believe me I've got a lot (not from drinking but from working with drunks), most cops take more crap then they should from drunk people.

I've seen snot nosed kids say things to a cop that I thought was drunk tank worthy, only to watch the cop remain calm and collected.

The only time that I have seen a cop get heated with a drunk is when the cop was called to the scene to deal with that specific drunk and that drunk started running off at the mouth. If they are in your presence because of your actions, you're already behind the 8 ball and the slightest little comment can push it too far.

:laugh2: There actually was a former police officer on FB that said that it is a judgement call on the officer's part - or if you make them mad.
