Newman Mum On Shadowing Jackson
Posted by nickeatman at 11/4/2009 12:22 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com
Speaking to the media for the first time in a few weeks, cornerback Terence Newman was rather coy in answering questions about the possibility of shadowing Eagles WR DeSean Jackson this week.
And of course Newman would answer it that way. That’s something you definitely don’t want to give away if indeed that’s the Cowboys’ plan for Sunday night’s game.
“I don’t know. You’ll have to ask the coaches. I’ll do whatever they tell me to do,” Newman said when asked about the possibility. The cornerback also said he has no preference when the coaches notify him of the plan. “It doesn’t matter. You just go out and play. If that’s something they want me to do, I’ll definitely do it.”
Newman followed Carolina receiver Steve Smith all over the field in a Week Three matchup, limiting the perennial Pro Bowl WR to four catches for 38 yards. Newman also shadowed Commanders receiver Santana Moss in the second game last year after Newman returned from an abdominal injury. He basically shut down Moss, with an interception.
So that plan has worked in the past. Maybe we’ll see the Cowboys bring it out again in Philadelphia. If so, Newman won’t be the one who announces the decision.
Austin Says His Groin Is Fine

Never was able to confirm the report out there earlier this week about Miles Austin's slight groin strain, which may or may not have been the Cowboys' reasoning for taking him out in the fourth quarter against the Seahawks.
Either way, it doesn't look like Austin will be bothered by the groin this week. It didn't sound like an issue at all on Wednesday.
"It's alright, yeah," the receiver said.
Wade Phillips had said earlier this week Austin would be fine, so it would be a surprise if he pops up on the injury report now.
Austin had missed virtually the entire off-season OTA and mini-camp schedule with a hamstring injury.
