Newman Mum On Shadowing Jackson
Posted by nickeatman at 11/4/2009 12:22 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com

Speaking to the media for the first time in a few weeks, cornerback Terence Newman was rather coy in answering questions about the possibility of shadowing Eagles WR DeSean Jackson this week.

And of course Newman would answer it that way. That’s something you definitely don’t want to give away if indeed that’s the Cowboys’ plan for Sunday night’s game.

“I don’t know. You’ll have to ask the coaches. I’ll do whatever they tell me to do,” Newman said when asked about the possibility. The cornerback also said he has no preference when the coaches notify him of the plan. “It doesn’t matter. You just go out and play. If that’s something they want me to do, I’ll definitely do it.”

Newman followed Carolina receiver Steve Smith all over the field in a Week Three matchup, limiting the perennial Pro Bowl WR to four catches for 38 yards. Newman also shadowed Commanders receiver Santana Moss in the second game last year after Newman returned from an abdominal injury. He basically shut down Moss, with an interception.

So that plan has worked in the past. Maybe we’ll see the Cowboys bring it out again in Philadelphia. If so, Newman won’t be the one who announces the decision.

Austin Says His Groin Is Fine
Posted by jellis at 11/4/2009 12:48 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com

Never was able to confirm the report out there earlier this week about Miles Austin's slight groin strain, which may or may not have been the Cowboys' reasoning for taking him out in the fourth quarter against the Seahawks.

Either way, it doesn't look like Austin will be bothered by the groin this week. It didn't sound like an issue at all on Wednesday.

"It's alright, yeah," the receiver said.

Wade Phillips had said earlier this week Austin would be fine, so it would be a surprise if he pops up on the injury report now.

Austin had missed virtually the entire off-season OTA and mini-camp schedule with a hamstring injury.

Hes deff going to be trying those double moves and McFlabb with the pump fakes.

Got to have help over the top.

Ken and Sens will have to be on their A+ game.

Sens i aint worried about, but ken? he is in his own little world sometimes

but i know Newman will be in great position most of the time, i think he loves these challenges, when a coach says "that's your man, lets see what you can do"

Ware and Ratliff, when they get to Mcnabb..they have too...n i mean have too, wrap him up...none of this 1 hand bring you down BS...i hate seeing him break tackles

Ala a few years ago, for that bomb.

But I got faith in these guys, and I think they can get the job done.

Antoine Cason shut down DeSean Jackson virtually every time California played Arizona. Jackson does not do well when CBs get physical. Hit him at the LOS...hard. He will fold.

Jackson couldnt get open for a ball against oakland or washington because of the pressure on mcnabb.

So there you have it.

By the way, well done by newman.

I wonder if they'll use Jenkins?
I was listening to talking cowboys the other day, and they were discussing the possibility of TNew on D.Jak and Mike on Maclin all game.

How was what Newman said "coy?" Sounds like he answered the question the best he could.

And I agree with Hostile. Line up on the receivers and when the ball is snapped, hit them hard. Of course, I'm sure we'll be lined up 7 yards off every play.

yup...or they could put Jenkins and D Jak...and just let Newman shut down Maclin on an island by himself

its great when you have 3 real good corners.....man if Anthony Henry was here...i wouldnt feel too good about this game...unless he was at Safety...then id feel great

It's all about the pass rush. Always is. Never gonna change. Stop the run and have a consistent pass rush. Dallas wins.

I love Newman, but after last year's game in which Jackson burned him, I can't say I'm thrilled to cover him one-on-one. We have to give him a safety over the top for help.

If that is the case I would put Jenkins on him because he can be very physical at the LOS.

That said, when Newman is given the task to shut someone down, he usually does!

he wasn't given a task....and he was a rookie...Newman plays to his competition, or usually when he knows a WR is real good

Smith and Moss may be stronger...but please understand that DeSean Jackson is on of the fastest players in the NFL
