DC.COM Blog: Newman Mum On Shadowing Jackson/Austin Says His Groin Is Fine

Antoine Cason shut down DeSean Jackson virtually every time California played Arizona. Jackson does not do well when CBs get physical. Hit him at the LOS...hard. He will fold.

That was college though Hos.

Everything I've read indicated Jackson spent this offseason really focusing on getting off the line, and has improved from last year. Newman isn't exactly an ace on press coverage either.

Which is why IMO, we need to jam Maclin, who is a rookie and rarely if ever saw press coverage playing for Missouri. Jenkins is also a better at jamming receivers than Newman is.

It doesn't matter. That is the book on how to contain him. He's small and cannot out physical a CB. He relies on his speed. So don't let him hit full speed by hitting him at the LOS.

Hes deff going to be trying those double moves and McFlabb with the pump fakes.

Got to have help over the top.

Ken and Sens will have to be on their A+ game.

Agreed. What worries me is that Newman sometimes bites on the double move. He simply cannot allow Jackson or Macklin to get behind him unless he has safety help.

What I don't understand is this. Even when our CBs are up close the line they don't really jam the receiver. They may or may not reach out and touch them, but they don't knock the receiver off his route.

I would love to see our CBs knock the snot out the receiver at the line. The best job I've ever seen of that was the Packers/Whiners playoff game to see who got to come play the Cowboys for the NFC Championship in '95 (I think).

The whiners had no running game to speak of. They were a throw first and always team (exaggeration for emphasis). So the Pack's DBs just played up close and beat up the receivers at the line every time they could and won the game. That's what I would like to see us do if our CBs are big enough and strong enough to do it.

OR....
Since I'm going on memory here I could be wrong about everything.:D

he wasn't given a task....and he was a rookie...Newman plays to his competition, or usually when he knows a WR is real good
WTH does that mean? He let Jackson burn him easily last year. A rookie WR shouldn't burn a veteran CB and that's exactly what happened.

Plays to his competition? We were playing for the playoffs! This wasn't an exhibition game.

I think Sensabaugh will let DeSean Jackson know he is on the field early in the game.

Yeah, and the Giants shouldn't beat the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl, who set offensive records galore either.

Seriously people, it's football. It happens from time to time - people get beat, or burned, or whatever. The Raiders beat the Eagles. Sometimes, you just get beat.

Exactly.

DeSean Jackson is a lilliputian wide receiver. If we come out at the start of the game and knock the crap out of him on running and passing downs he won't even be thinking about football in the second quarter.

He'll be thinking about where the next hit is coming from.

If you give Jackson a clean release into the secondary and allow him to hit top speed unimpeded, you are asking to be bitten.

Treat Jackson as an undersized piece of meat and chew on him from the first series on and see what he's made of.

We need newman to shut him down...which i think he will.....4 catches for 46 yards!

Well, I think that they need to jam him at the line. He is a 175lb, if that, receiver that you need to be physical with. You just can't give him a free release and let him run down the field.

4 catches, 15 yards.

I fixed it for you.

Bring on that little troll DeSean Jackson and tell that troll Santana Moss to get in line.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrnt

Jackson is best WR in NFC east. Newman is maybe 8th best in NFC East
Alright then, I won't argue if you can name seven that are better.

I've been liking how physical our DB's have been playing lately. They've been laying some serious wood on short to intermediate routes.

I don't think DeSean Jackson does much else than go-routes and double moves. Dangerous, but I'd love to bait him into one of our safeties early. Let someone destroy his 175lb (soaking wet) frame.

I think in man coverage the secondary will lock them down, but I think they will get most of their passing yards against the zone. I still think the Cowboys pull it off though. They just have to limit busted coverages.

i love it.....but i feel he will get 1 little BS play on a drive that Mcnabb breaks free...and in garbage time..when we are winning

hes trying hard to be annoying

he needs to stop, no one is buying his act, we all know off this board hes biggest Cowboy loser, and maybe gets bullied for it in RL, so he comes here and tries to act all super non bias

Yeah ill be honest Im not thrilled with this match up, or the way Newman has been playing this year. Id like to see what Jenkins could do covering Desean...
