Phillips Says Austin's Hamstring Is OK

[FONT=verdana, geneva]The Cowboys sat all 22 projected starters Friday night -- 23 if you count co-starters Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick -- as well as running back Felix Jones and wide receiver Miles Austin, who didn't dress out because of a sore hamstring.
Head coach Wade Phillips said Austin is "fine," however, evidenced by him traveling with the team. The rest of the Cowboys' injured players did not make the trip to Minneapolis.
"We took some precautions the other day because his hamstring was a little tight," Phillips said. "He said he was fine today."
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said at this point he doesn't foresee Austin being unable to play the Sept. 13 regular-season opener at Tampa Bay.
As long as Austin can return to practice next week, which appears to be the case, this could be a blessing in disguise. Sam Hurd, another key reserve receiver, suffered a high ankle sprain in last year's preseason finale at Texas Stadium and wound up playing in only three games in 2008. Hurd also sat out Friday, still resting a sore quad.
The Cowboys clearly aren't taking any chances with their receivers' health so close to the opener. Roy Williams (shoulder) practiced this week but didn't play. Rookie Kevin Ogletree, a virtual lock for the 53-man roster, sat the rest of the game after suffering an eye bruise in the second quarter. He said afterward he's fine.
