Roy & T.O. Racing To Four Catches

They had to have planned this, right?

Heard a couple reports tonight about Terrell Owens name-dropping Cowboys receiver Roy Williams on Wednesday, which is interesting since Williams also mentioned his former teammate during the day's open locker room period.

Owens apparently said his goal is to have a better season than Williams.

Reminded me of what the current Cowboys wide out said Wednesday. After all the cameras were gone he joked that he and Owens were in a competition to see who could get to four catches first.

Williams voiced a little optimism today just like Owens. Four catches would actually match Williams' high since coming to Dallas.

Not that it really matters, but this solidifies to me that he was joking..

Saw the clip on NFL Network and yeah TO was joking from his laugh and smile. Without that mention TO was almost forgotten guy these days. I guess he needed his 15 minutes.

After seeing the video of Owens saying it, it was clear he was joking. That grin from ear to ear is far too telling.

However I do think he wanted those who "conspired" against him to hear it, whoever he thinks they are at this point.

Is TO getting into Roy's ear and trying to convince Roy that Romo is ignoring him?

So that is what you deduced?
just knowing TOs history....knowing TOs ability to get people to follow him....knowing that TO felt he was being ignored last year when he was in Dallas....hearing TO and Roy have a competition going as to who is going to get the ball most...and knowing how prima donna WRs have operated in the past....I don't think my deduction is far fetched at all.

I bet Roy has a big game soon. Tony wants it for him I've heard. Tony is the guy who can make it happen.

Im not sure what Roy has shown his entire time in dallas that has given you hope that this "big game" is coming. Is he capable, sure, I dont think he's completely void of talent but something is missing there with him.

Perhaps the clue lies in the last 2 sentences?

Talent doesnt always translate to production. How many very talented players dont make it in this league? I think he has been saddled with a pedigree and the ridiculous trade Jerry made to get him which brings on superstar expectations but even tempering those expectations he's fallen woefully short.

I'm no fortune teller, but I'm willing to say that Roy Williams will have that "big game" this season. Perhaps several. After he does though, there will be various levels of shock posted on the forum.

Why? Who knows? It seems that there are those who believe that this particular 27-year old wide receiver skill set is restricted completely to what he has demonstrated thus far as a Dallas Cowboy.

This is supposedly "how high" he goes as a receiver.

Anything short of Owens-like expectations are disappointments (regardless of the team's actual win/loss record).

"Draft picks + contract = failure forever"

That's good stuff if the world actually had ended yesterday. It didn't. Nothing's written in stone.

The only real detriment of Williams' career prior to coming here were injuries. Injuries have once again impacted him yet again this seasons, even though he himself cannot blame some of his drops on his ribs injury.

He's not the best route runner to have ever played in the NFL. Neither is he average nor the worst. Average or worst route running won't have netted him as many receiving yards or catches as a Detroit Lion.

In the final analysis, Roy E. Williams is a very good receiver, not elite, but very good. All the shouting that he isn't or all the fingerpointing at 1/2 of '08 (as a #2 within a passing offense which rarely looked past it's either #1 wide receiver or #1 tight end) or his limited time in '09 will not change that. It'll just make those doing the shouting feel vindicated...

...six games into this season.

Ive put the elite tag behind me as I think most fans have, Id settle for even average right now.

I think that Roy will have a big game and it will be soon. No doubt that this last game was his low and I think that Garrett, Romo and Roy will put in the time this week to make sure that they can take advantage of the attention that Miles Austin is sure to get going forward.

They really need to get both Miles and Roy clicking in November so that Defenses cannot focus their schemes on just Miles or Witten. Accomplish that and big things could follow for this team.

yeah but how many games last season did Roy take advantage of the attention TO was getting? Besides all that, I dont think Roy is the coverage magnet everyone is making him out to be. I dont see many teams rolling coverage to him.

I don't believe Roy's issues are with coverage. I believe that he has struggled with his routes and Tony's comfort level with trusting Roy to be where he should be. It seems to be more noticeable on those timing patterns where Romo has to throw to a spot and expect the Williams will be there.

That is a bad thing, for certain, but with defenses taking notice of Miles, it becomes that much more important for Romo and Williams to get to a place of trust and Garrett to put in more plays where Williams and Romo can get in sync.

I just happen to believe that it will finally get done and get done soon.
