From blogger Josh Ellis.

Josh Ellis said:
We've heard from a lot of Cowboys fans concerned about the rest of the NFC East loading up this off-season, while the Cowboys were rather quiet in comparison.

One of the real areas of worry was the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive haul in the NFL Draft, specifically that Jeremy Maclin would team with DeSean Jackson, and LeSean McCoy would pair with Brian Westbrook to be competely unstoppable.

Well, it's only June, and there's already a problem with Philly's backfield duo. Westbrook, who needed arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this off-season, is having ankle soreness that kept him out of Tuesday's OTA practice, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"I wish I could tell you more, but I don't know more right this minute," coach Andy Reid told the newspaper of Westbrook. "But we'll know more as we go on here the next couple of days.

"His knee is feeling good . . . So, yeah, it's just his ankle at the moment."

We're expecting McCoy to succeed in the NFL - in fact he was the only player the Cowboys had a first-round grade on who was still available when they first went on the clock for pick No. 51. But no matter how good McCoy is this season, Philadelphia's offense won't be nearly as scary if Westbrook keeps getting banged up. He'll be 30 years old by the time the season starts.

Is now the time we start to see Westbrook fall apart, as so many running backs do when they hit 30?

This is going to be a tight division again in 2009. It's never too early to keep an eye on what's happening on the east coast.

If he'd been able to stay healthy, I wonder what kind of career numbers he could have right now.

As an Eagle, I hate him. But it's hard to deny that he's just a great all-around player, both physically and mentally. That play where he slid down at the 1: all brains, no ego. I wish more players were like that.

Westbrook being hurt is pretty much like Stanback to this point. It's no longer news because you know it's coming at some point.

I think Desean Jackson will have some similar issues throughout his career because of his size.

It's not that unusual for an established star to not participate a lot in OTAs and even camp. I'd not work Westbrook much. Not saying he's not hurt although I do wonder a little.

Seems like this happens all year every year with him but I think he might be starting to show signs of wearing down.

There goes the Eagles. He is the heart and soul of that offense. He's made McNabb look great, and has really been one of the most dynamic players in the league for years. Its only a matter of time before those injuries add up with the amount of touches Reid feeds him.

As long as he hits his 2-4 game slide when they play us!

He always pulls something.

If I was picking a team of 53 players.. Westbrook would be on my team for sure.

Westbrook makes that offense go. As a Cowboy fan I'm really happy to see him wearing down. He has been tearing us up for years now.

The agent for Brian Westbrook confirmed to ESPN that his client will have surgery to clean out bone spurs in his injured right ankle.

The agent gave no timetable for Westbrook's return, but a source told ESPN that he could be sidelined "well into training camp." Even though it's to the same ankle Westbrook struggled with last year the agent claims, "it's just some bone spurs...it has nothing to do with the high ankle sprain." It remains to be seen what's left of Westbrook's speed going on age 30 and coming off two leg surgeries. He also had his knee scoped in February. Jun. 3 - 8:06 pm et

He will still end up with like 1500 all purpose yards and be one of the most dangerous players in the league this season.

The guy is great. I dont think he is done yet.
