From blogger Josh Ellis.
Josh Ellis said:We've heard from a lot of Cowboys fans concerned about the rest of the NFC East loading up this off-season, while the Cowboys were rather quiet in comparison.
One of the real areas of worry was the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive haul in the NFL Draft, specifically that Jeremy Maclin would team with DeSean Jackson, and LeSean McCoy would pair with Brian Westbrook to be competely unstoppable.
Well, it's only June, and there's already a problem with Philly's backfield duo. Westbrook, who needed arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this off-season, is having ankle soreness that kept him out of Tuesday's OTA practice, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"I wish I could tell you more, but I don't know more right this minute," coach Andy Reid told the newspaper of Westbrook. "But we'll know more as we go on here the next couple of days.
"His knee is feeling good . . . So, yeah, it's just his ankle at the moment."
We're expecting McCoy to succeed in the NFL - in fact he was the only player the Cowboys had a first-round grade on who was still available when they first went on the clock for pick No. 51. But no matter how good McCoy is this season, Philadelphia's offense won't be nearly as scary if Westbrook keeps getting banged up. He'll be 30 years old by the time the season starts.
Is now the time we start to see Westbrook fall apart, as so many running backs do when they hit 30?
This is going to be a tight division again in 2009. It's never too early to keep an eye on what's happening on the east coast.
