The Cowboys seem to have landed a quality defensive coordinator in Rob Ryan – at least one that is well respected and has some quality football genes.

But speaking at Super Bowl Media Day on Tuesday at Cowboys Stadium, a former player and current Steelers coach was hoping to get his name in the mix.

Ray Horton, who played for the Cowboys from 1989-92 and has spent the last six years coaching Pittsburgh’s defensive backs, said he wished the Cowboys would’ve held off a bit before hiring Ryan two weeks ago...

I'm glad the way things worked out with Ryan, a proven DC in my book. Horton hasn't ever been a DC I don't believe. That uncertainty gives Ryan the edge IMO.

I would have liked to have one of Dick's disciples coaching this team. I'm happy with Ryan, but he also has a better chance of getting a HC offer in the near-term than someone like Horton IMO. Hopefully he lasts at least 2 seasons with us.

I think Ryan is going to do a fine job. I like his "attitude" and the way his players want to play for him. Hopefully, he will instill this feeling in our guys.

Sorry Horton. I wanted a DC that had been there and done it before. We have a rookie head coach. Which is fine. But I voted for experienced OC and DC around him. People he hopefully trusts

Cowboy

I'd bet there are 80 defensive position coaches in the NFL who wished the Cowboys had waited on Ryan and given them a look.

I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.

If Rob Ryan gets a HC opportunity in 2012, Horton could very well be in the mix for our DC position next year.

Horton can come coach the secondary if he wants to move south that bad.

Well, then maybe you should have bad game planned your guys against Joe Flacco Ray.

Just saying...
