Wow, I didn't realize that Herschel Walker was drafted in the 5th round. It's been a long time and I never payed any attention to the draft back in those days.

Yep.

He was sort of a future pick like the Staubach pick.

Those were days when we still lead the league in innovation and benefited over other team unable to be proactive.

We don't do that anymore.

Jerrah has lost that edge.

I remember hearing the stories about his workouts. I forget the exact numbers but 1000 sit ups and push ups per day.(mighta posted this dr) The year he was traded he played GB his last game for Dallas had 44 rushing yds and 45 receiving yards his first game in Minni was against GB the next week and he ran for 148 and caught for 1-7. One of only 2-3 people in history to play the same team back to back weeks for different teams.

Something like 1500 push ups, 3000 sit ups, and several miles jogging every day. Said he didn't do any other kind of off season training during his football days.

He's one hell of an all around athlete in the Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, Danny Ainge sphere (yes, that Danny Ainge who played pro baseball and was on the HoF 1980s Celtics team).

In addition to some stellar achievements in football, Walker was, as stated, Olympic level sprinter. He even beat Carl Lewis once in training or friendly race, but I don't recall the details.

There was also this all around athletics competition back then that pitted athletes from different sports in things like bowling, tennis, basketball, and a bunch of other events. Walker won it at least once. Then there's the bob sledding and MMA fighting late in life. The guy is a beast of an athlete.

What makes him even more remarkable is he did all that with what many would call a multiple personality disorder although that's not the name anymore. I admire this man greatly. I remember his first game as a Cowboy. I'm pretty sure the announcer said 'and there he goes'. He turned the corner and took off. Don't remember if it was a TD or not.

I had seen an interview on youtube or somewhere last year where he was talking about his disorder and it was really complex how he described developing different personalities and that their were gaps that he didn't remember which made me think he had some concussion issues also that they just explained the best way they could at the time(whole nother can of worms) but he's probably the first person I ever heard talk about multiple personalities and I wasn't skeptical at all. Theres just nothing shady about him and a work ethic thats in the Jerry Rice range.
